Last weekend (15th November) was a heartwarming, emotional farewell to Betsy our very loved DC3 airliner…
Her actual departure date will be advised.
Our crew were in uniform and we were thrilled to after over a year, be able to fit into our scarves, ties and hats😝!
Special thanks to New Zealand Warbirds who put on the event, the delicious High Tea, and setting up the spaces for us to make speeches as well. Everyone was able to go out and get onboard Betsy, in between 4 hours of Seven Sharp (TV1) filming the crew and our fond recollections of our time operating the DC3.
It’s on tonight!!! Seven Sharp! “Bye Betsy… you’ve been swell…”.

Here we are again with our beautiful DC3 in New Zealand... in the Southern Hemisphere spring weather late 2025.
We have been very quiet for way over a year now... and it is time to say 'Hello' again on Facebook.
Our excellent NZ engineering team have been quietly working and extensively preparing our heritage aircraft to be ready to be in the best position for her next chapter of her life. She will be moving offshore to Australia.
Just this week, we have cheered our team as they completed our post-maintenance test flying.
We are so proud to be part of being the history of this beautiful DC3 airliner's story. Very mixed emotions here among the team as we prepare to say "Bye Bye Betsy".

Exactly a year ago, the crew at FLY DC3 New Zealand operated our final passenger flight. After 37 years flying in New Zealand, with the dreams and plans to ‘keep going forever’ - it just got too hard. (We will elaborate on another post.)
Over the last 12 months, we have been quietly preparing our beautiful DC3 airliner for sale. This has meant a comprehensive and detailed ‘top to tail’ detail, ensuring that the new owner knows that everything has been attended to. It takes time to do it properly.
Meanwhile, our lovely ‘Betsy’ has been looked after at Ardmore, and before she heads away, (later in 2025) we will ensure that everyone gets the opportunity to come and say ‘’Bye Betsy’. It will be the saddest day, to say “Farewell” to this most beautiful DC3 airliner , probably one of the handful of loveliest/best DC3’s in the world.
We thought we would have her forever - her time in New Zealand was a large part of her history. For more than 50% of her amazing life, Her Story was in our hands. On Our Watch.
(I (Jessica) am writing a book – including the time I managed the operation of ZK-DAK in New Zealand.)

I will put up the podcast for you. What lovely people at RNZ and Jesse just puts you at ease.

Great to have Geoff and Jessica in the studio to talk passionately about Betsy, a Douglas DC-3 aircraft! They're trying to come up with a way to keep people enjoying Betsy for many years to come.
