One of the greats is gone.
We are very sad to learn of the death of Peter Peryer, who will be remembered as one of the most important photographic artists in New Zealand, with a truly singular vision. His photographs range widely in subject matter, but all share an indefinable quality of being distinctively Peter Peryer pictures.
PhotoForum is proud to have had a long association with Peter. The first of many of his pictures published in PhotoForum magazine being this self portrait, submitted for an assignment on the theme of reflections and published in the October/November 1974 issue. For a time he was also involved in the production of the magazine, and even served as vice president of the society for a time in the 1970s. More recently, he graciously offered his memories of those times in a conversation with Peter Ireland, in the 2014 publication "PhotoForum at 40".
Rest in peace, Peter. You will be missed.
