For many Kiwi travellers, Puerto Rico itself is already beyond the obvious. But there's another side of this Caribbean island that makes it especially rewarding to explore by car.

In colourful Old San Juan, wander cobblestone streets lined with Spanish colonial buildings, explore the magnificent El Morro fortress overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and discover the food, history and vibrant culture of Puerto Rico's capital.
In El Yunque National Forest, venture into the only tropical rainforest in the U.S. National Forest System, where lush mountain landscapes, walking trails, waterfalls and spectacular viewpoints reveal a completely different side of the Caribbean.
Off the east coast, discover Culebra, home to beautiful Flamenco Beach and some of Puerto Rico's most inviting turquoise waters. Spend the day snorkelling, swimming and enjoying the island's spectacular coastal scenery.

For the eighth and final week of America The Beautiful: One Adventure At A Time, we're heading to the Caribbean to explore a side of the USA that remains largely undiscovered by Kiwi travellers.
Our 13-day Discover Puerto Rico journey combines colourful Spanish heritage, tropical rainforest, spectacular beaches and the freedom of the open road.
Begin with three nights in Old San Juan, exploring cobblestone streets, historic forts and Puerto Rican food, with a hands-on mixology experience at Casa BACARDÍ.
Collect your Alamo rental car and head west to Rincón, stopping along the way to discover the island's north coast. Continue via the dramatic coastline of Cabo Rojo to historic Ponce before crossing Puerto Rico's beautiful mountain interior to Luquillo.
Spend three nights discovering El Yunque National Forest, Luquillo Beach and nearby Culebra, including a full-day boat and snorkelling excursion to spectacular Flamenco Beach.
Finally, return your rental car to San Juan and fly to Vieques for two nights of island life, wild horses and an unforgettable evening kayaking on extraordinary Mosquito Bay.

Some journeys are as much about the road between the destinations as the destinations themselves.
In South Dakota and Wyoming, the road carries you through landscapes that seem made for a great American self-drive.
Travel through the extraordinary formations of the Badlands, into the forests and granite peaks of the Black Hills, then cross the wide-open landscapes of northern Wyoming beneath Devils Tower.
Climb across the Bighorn Mountains, follow the spectacular Chief Joseph Scenic Byway towards Yellowstone and eventually journey south beneath the jagged peaks of the Teton Range.
Along the way are bison, cowboy towns, historic saloons, mountain passes, geysers, hot springs, waterfalls and some of America's most remarkable national parks.
