๐ณ๐ฟ MAJOR CHANGES TO NEW ZEALAND PARENT RESIDENT VISA! ๐จโ๐ฉโ๐งโ๐ฆ
Immigration New Zealand has announced a new hybrid selection system for the Parent Resident Visa Category, starting 5 October 2026.
๐น Whatโs changing?
๐ 90% of EOIs will be selected based on date order
๐ Around 10% of EOIs will be selected through a ballot
๐ The annual allocation remains at 2,500 Parent Resident Visas
๐ Existing EOIs will automatically transition into the new system โ no need to submit a new EOI
๐ EOIs will no longer expire after 2 years, provided applicants confirm every 2 years that they want to remain in the pool and keep their information updated
๐ No additional fee will be required for this confirmation
๐ Existing eligibility requirements for applicants and sponsors remain unchanged
๐
Important dates
โก๏ธ 11 August 2026: Next Parent Resident Visa selection under the current system
โก๏ธ 5 October 2026: New hybrid selection model begins
โก๏ธ 10 November 2026: First selection under the new hybrid model
๐ก What does this mean for families?
The new system is designed to make the Parent Resident Visa selection process fairer and more predictable, while still providing an opportunity for newer EOIs to be selected through the ballot.
However, demand is still expected to be higher than the 2,500 places available each financial year, so some families may continue to face a waiting period.
