This was supposed to be a driving day.

Instead, Day 22 gave a Mt Cook viewpoint, Lake Tekapo, a soak in the hot springs, a BBQ cooked by the Kiwi Experience driver and stargazing to finish the night.

Not bad for getting from A to B. 😮‍💨

Sometimes the days you expect the least from end up being the ones absolutely stacked with memories.

Queenstown clearly didn’t get the memo about taking it easy.

Day 21 with started by throwing herself off a canyon at Shotover Canyon Swing, headed back up into the mountains on the Skyline Queenstown Gondola, and finished exactly how a big Queenstown day should; Fergburger Ltd with another Kiwi Experience traveller and a much-needed chilled evening.

Adrenaline in the morning. Burgers by night. Pretty solid day, really.

Day 20 in Queenstown had flying across the water on the Shotover Jet before swapping horsepower of one kind for another with an evening horse ride.

That’s Queenstown for you. Your morning can have you holding on for dear life and your evening can look like it belongs in a postcard.

The hardest part? Choosing what to do tomorrow.

Some road trip stops are for doing more. This one’s for doing as much, or as little, as you feel like.

Sitting at the base of Mount John, has hot pools overlooking Lake Tekapo and the surrounding mountains, making it a pretty good place to reset after a few big days on the road.

Still got some energy? Hit the snow tubes or see how long you can stay upright on the ice-skating rink. Then swap the cold for the hot pools, steam rooms or sauna.

And when the sun goes down, Tekapo Star Gazing pairs a guided stargazing experience in the Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve with a soak under the night sky. ✨

We are aware of reports concerning a so-called “travel bug” affecting Kiwi Experience passengers.

Following an extensive investigation, we can confirm the symptoms are real and also include: extended trips, new group chats, excessive mountain photos and a concerning reluctance to go home.

At this time, we ask the public to remain calm... and vote.

Day 18 with proves that getting there can be just as good as the destination.

Leaving Franz Josef behind and making her way towards Wānaka, there was no shortage of reasons to keep the camera out every time the bus stopped.

This is the beauty of travelling New Zealand by road; the places you didn’t expect to be highlights somehow end up becoming them.

Next stop: Wānaka. 🚌
