Best NZ Syrah this year so far!! 💜🍇 2019 Matakana Syrah. The OBV 2010 syrah was spectacular and so is this excellent medium bodied wine from Hegman Foster or OBV Vineyard. Rich and velvety Cote Rotie style with blackberry and dark raspberry and just a hint of sweet white pepper corn. The texture is velvet and the vanilla pod and cedar from French oak maturation very much in harmony with the berry and Black Doris plum flavors from this outstanding hot 2019 vintage. Aging gracefully it will continue to soften with enough acidity to keep this wine for many more years. It's a beauty!! Check it out at the Vineyard or on the Matakana Scenic Coastal Getaway Tour.

2021 Kumeu Pinotage. Just 6 rows. There used to be a lot of Pinotage in West Auckland but most if not all was pulled out.
When Babich pulled out theirs in the Henderson Valley it was so sad because the wine they made from it was outstanding and one I'll never forget. It might simply have been slightly fickle to grow like part of its lineage as a Pinot Noir/Cinsaut hybrid first cultivated in Stellenbosch South Africa in 1925. It's a signature South African red, but this local example is richly floral on the nose with Black Doris Plum, blueberry, cherry and vanilla. Quite savory on the palate with loads of juicy berries and red fruits, wild raspberry and cherry. While medium bodied it's smoky earthy cherry berry intensity makes it a perfect wine to enjoy with some aged cheddar by the fire on a cold winters night - This wine will continue to soften and develop for several years - only at the cellardoor
