We suspect World Journeys' Chris may be extending his stay in South America just to avoid the New Zealand winter.

After exploring Argentina, Brazil and Peru, he's now discovering Ecuador, where one of his highlights has been Quito's historic cathedral in the heart of the city's beautifully preserved old town.

Having endured earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and centuries of change, it remains one of Ecuador's most important landmarks and one of Chris's favourite places - although he says that about every charming town in South America!

There’s a reason Machu Picchu continues to draw travellers from around the world.

Set high above the Urubamba Valley, the ancient citadel feels even more impressive in person. Travel by train from the Sacred Valley or via Cuzco, followed by short bus to the ruins.

For those wanting a more active journey, Machu Picchu can also be combined with a range of treks through the Andes. Just be sure to allow time to acclimatise to the altitude along the way.

Travel tip: entry numbers are limited, so we strongly recommend booking well in advance.

Notes from the road with World Journeys’ Africa specialist, Tony

After years helping our clients experience Africa, Tony is finally off exploring the wild landscapes of Namibia. And honestly, we’re not sure what we’re more jealous of: the desert sunsets, the elephant encounters, or those impossibly clear night skies.

From the tiniest creatures hidden in the sand to the vast open landscapes Namibia is known for, it’s moments like these that remind us why tailored travel experience matters so much when designing journeys for our clients.

Tony… room for one more next time?

Some of the world’s greatest stories are experienced by rail. Long lunches, ever-changing landscapes, and moments shared far from the rush of everyday life. Let us design a rail journey itinerary that feels as unforgettable as the places you’ll discover.

Bienvenido a Buenos Aires!

Eight years later, World Journeys’s Chris Lyons has returned to his favourite city in South America.

Among his recent discoveries? El Ateneo Grand Splendid — a remarkable theatre transformed into the most beautiful bookstore.

“Buenos Aires deserves time. travellers need at least four nights to properly absorb its character, food, history and atmosphere.”

Stay tuned for more.
