Samoa still on your mind?
Here is some info on why this is such a special spot, close to NZ and Australia, and where you truly can surf uncrowded waves 🏄♂️🏄♀️
The Surf

Samoa receives South swell all year round. The winter season sees very consistent south swells with east trade winds.
Summer still sees consistent south and north swells, and the trade winds switch to a very light northerly direction.
These trades all year round generally come up mid/late morning and back off late afternoon. The swells come from out of deep water and unload on Samoa’s coral reefs - often creating steep take-offs, fast waves and wide open mind-blowing tubes!
So it’s an intermediate to advanced surf destination during peak season.
A number of breaks are available on North and South coasts of Upolu and Savaii. Most are either reef breaks or point breaks, with an occasional beach or learner break on offer.
Most breaks in Samoa are well offshore or difficult to access. Staying with a surf resort with their boats, 4WDs and local knowledge minimises the time and hassle in surfing these waves whilst striving to provide safe, fast, guided access to the best waves.
Time to travel

Winter 🥶 the peak South swell season starts generally in May and goes right through to October. Consistent swells from New Zealand mean there’s never a flat day in Samoa’s South Coast.
Generally, you’re looking around 3-5ft, with larger days of 6-8ft in there as well. The winds during these months vary from either East to South East directions making most breaks cross shore, but there’s definitely a handful of breaks which are offshore and pump!
The North Coast is generally flat during this time of the year with occasional swells wrapping into a few secret spots on the North coast with some known offshore spots.
Summer 🥵 During the months of November to April the North coast comes alive with swells coming down from Hawaii.
There’s usually a wave around the 3-4ft size with peak north swells getting up to 4-6ft as well.
The winds during these months are usually very light and form the North East.
The South Coast swells are a little cleaner and more friendly around the 3-4ft range with odd bigger days.
Winds are light and from the North East.
