What makes Japan's snow so special?

Japan is home to some of the best powder skiing on the planet, and it's no accident.

• Resorts receive an incredible 10–18 metres of snow each winter.
• The Cold, dry Siberian air picks up moisture over the Sea of Japan, creating light, fluffy powder.
• Japan's powder typically has a low moisture content (around 4–10%), making it incredibly light and easy to ski.
• Mountain ranges force moisture-laden storms upwards, producing frequent, heavy snowfall throughout the season.
• Fresh snowfalls of 20–50cm overnight are common, with bigger storms bringing even more.

Whether you're after deep powder, light, fluffy snow, or conditions that are forgiving on your legs, Japan is the place to be.
