New post study work visa options are coming for international students.

🌏🎓 Studying in New Zealand? Two work visa options are opening up for graduates.

From Monday 16 November, there are two changes that can help international graduates take the next step from study into work:

✅ New visa: Short‑term Graduate Work Visa (SGWV)

A new visa for eligible graduates of vocational study, offering up to 6 months of open work rights — time to look for a job, gain local experience, and explore longer‑term options.

✅ Expanded eligibility: Post‑Study Work Visa (PSWV)

More graduates will now be eligible for a Post‑Study Work Visa of up to 12 months, with eligibility extended to students who complete a Level 7 Graduate Diploma and also hold a Bachelor’s degree.

These are one‑off visas and can only be granted once per individual.

Erica Stanford has announced today that with the introduction of two new skilled residence pathways coming in August 2026 it was important that people coming to New Zealand for "mid-skilled roles with aspirations for residence" arrive with a "minimum of basic, everyday English".

The changes will apply from the beginning of next month.

🚨Watch out for fake job offers🚨

New Zealand employers cannot charge you fees for a job or make you pay any of their recruitment costs. This includes indirectly through a third party who then demands you pay them.

If you see these signs of a scam, stop and take extra precautions. Ask questions and seek official advice: https://www.immigration.govt.nz/work/protecting-yourself-from-immigration-scams/

Happy New Year everyone. Good news for employers: The Government is pausing the increase of the median wage rate for the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) that was due to go up in February 2024.

All current wage rates in place will remain, including:

• NZ$29.66 per hour for migrants employed on most AEWVs
• NZ$26.16 per hour for AEWV holders covered by the Care Workforce Sector Agreement
• Specific wage rates for other sector agreements and roles with exemptions to the median wage.

The median wage will still increase to NZ$31.61 in February 2024 for other visa categories that use it, such as the Skilled Migrant Category and Parent Category. However, this planned increase will not impact applications that are received before the increase.
