A great early morning doing some fly casting tips with Chad Plooy and Ryan.
before chasing some yellow Tail Fly Fishing Magazine

Covering the most important aspect of actual fly fishing (after gear selection and setup) - distance casting and presentation accuracy.

We headed out on our perfect little local fly fishing flat before heading off to go chase some surface feeding Kingies in the bay.

We succeeded and had a ton of fun with these super fussy Kingfish that were locked into feeding on small baitfish patterns.

We managed to “match the hatch” a couple of times with a few special flies from Ploy_Flies - working to hook up

Thank for the crazy good memories and adventure boys - we’ll be doing it again.

"Whether you are a purist or not, canal fish from the South Island's Mackenzie Basin near Lake Tekapo are some of the coolest fish to target on the coldest days and nights of winter. Nothing gets your blood going more than hooking a double figure fish that lives in a man-made hydro canal and you can see it cruising the banks with little to nowhere to hide or find cover. As an apex predator in that specific habitat, that fish has seen more nymphs and lures than most but, if you hide yourself and manage to hook them with a well-timed, delicate presentation, you have reason to celebrate." Jp Samuelson in his issue 10 High 5s interview. Just some straight up fun chasing yellow tails with Capt Jp Samuelson in the North Island.

What a great seasons it’s been... but now it’s time to focus on bigger winter fish species - in between these gnarly weather fronts, that is.

Now is the time to recharge, make plans for warmer climates, restock fly boxes, get new gear and let the change in water temperature bring with it, a change in tactics!
