Tamaki Hikoi - Auckland Guided Walks

Tamaki Hikoi - Auckland Guided Walks Guides from Ngāti Whātua tell ancient stories on the Tāmaki Hīkoi walking tours in Tāmaki (Auckland). Experience the cultural heart of Auckland.

For hundreds of years, Māori of the local Ngāti Whātua tribe have passed down, from generation to generation, tribal history and traditions. Guides from Ngāti Whātua re-tell these ancient stories on the Tāmaki Hīkoi walking tours in Tāmaki (Auckland). During these journeys you will explore Māori culture and heritage and learn why Tāmaki was so fiercely contested, how the tribe co-existed with the

land, and the impact of colonization on indigenous people. A range of different walks around Auckland are currently offered, visit Maungawhau (Mount Eden) - the highest natural point in Auckland, Takaparawhau (Bastion Point) and Pukekawa (Auckland Domain).

Hīkoi | News

Hīkoi is excited to share that we have retained our Gold Qualmark award under the Sustainable Tourism Business criteria for 2020.

Qualmark is a certification that helps travellers quantify the information they are presented about our tourism experiences. It acts as the final seal of approval that signifies the experience they are paying for is one of the most high quality, safe and sustainable experiences New Zealand has to offer.

Kia ora people of instagram,
My name is Waimarie and I am the news addition to the Tāmaki Hīkoi whānau!

A few facts about me
I LOVE kina
I grew up and currently live on my papakāinga here in Orākei
And it's my second week working for Tāmaki Hīkoi 😊🎉 My why?

My why is simple… to give back to my iwi by sharing our stories.
On my very first day at Tāmaki Hīkoi I was thrusted into my first hīkoi which was a very eye-opening experience.
I learnt things about Takaparawhau that I hadn’t before and trekked up Maungawhau for the first time in ages.
Being able to brush up on my knowledge of all things Ngāti Whātua has helped me to appreciate the mahi that
was done by my tupuna and the land on which I walk on to tell their stories.
I only hope that I am able to re-create that feeling for others as well. @ Takaparawhau
