🇯🇵✨ Tokyo – the final stop on our Japan adventure! 🏙️🚆

We spent our last 4 nights in Tokyo, with 2 nights at Tokyo Bay 🌊 and 2 nights in the city itself.

Of course, we had to visit both 🎠 Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea! Personally, I preferred Disneyland – it felt less crowded, had shorter wait times, and we managed to fit in more rides 🎢🎉. DisneySea is definitely unique and has some fantastic adventure attractions, but be prepared for longer queues ⏰ and a lot of walking between the different areas 👟😅.

We also explored the famous Shibuya Scramble Crossing 🚦🚶‍♀️🚶‍♂️, wandered around Harajuku 🎨🛍️ (although we didn't brave the crowds of Takesh*ta Street 😳), and enjoyed the peaceful surroundings of Meiji Shrine ⛩️🌳. The beautiful parklands around the shrine were a welcome escape from the city buzz 🍃✨.

Other highlights included visiting Asakusa ⛩️, shopping in Ginza 🛍️💳, and sampling plenty of Tokyo's amazing food scene 🍜🍣🥟.

While Tokyo was good to experience and definitely worth seeing if you haven't been before, it was probably our least favourite city of the trip. The crowds are intense 😵‍💫, and the trains can be incredibly busy 🚆💨. That said, it's an exciting city with plenty to see and do ⭐.

💡 Travel Tip: Finish your Japan trip in Tokyo! 🛍️🎁 It's the perfect place for all your shopping, and you won't have to carry your purchases around the rest of the country 🙌.

🇯🇵🚢 A few highlights so far:

🏯 Kochi — home to the beautiful Kochi Castle, one of Japan’s few original surviving castles, and known for its relaxed atmosphere, friendly locals, and amazing katsuo (bonito) seafood.

🌋 Kagoshima — often called the “Naples of Japan” thanks to its bay and volcano views. Sakurajima volcano dominates the skyline and is still one of Japan’s most active volcanoes.

🗻 Shimizu — famous for incredible views of Mt Fuji, one of Japan’s best tuna ports, and especially known for delicious fatty tuna fresh from the harbour. Best fresh tuna I have ever eaten!

Japan just keeps getting better with every port 🇯🇵✨

🇯🇵🚢 What’s made this cruise so special is that we’re visiting lesser-known ports and every stop so far, ours has been the only cruise ship in port. It’s given us a chance to experience a quieter, more authentic side of Japan away from the usual tourist crowds.

Another thing we’ve loved is that this cruise is incredibly popular with Japanese travellers themselves, around half the passengers onboard are Japanese making it a really authentic cruise with English and Japanese spoken onboard. 🛳

🇰🇷 Quick day trip to Busan from our cruise ship, from Japan.

We explored the colourful streets and charm of Gamcheon Culture Village (“Sweet Water”)

We then visited the stunning Yonggungsa Dragon Palace Temple by the sea, enjoyed an amazing Korean BBQ lunch, and finished the day relaxing at Haeundae Beach. 🌊🏯

Busan was the perfect mix of culture, food, and coastal beaches, definitely a highlight of our cruise! ✨

We have arrived in Hakadote - Hokkaido on the Diamond Princess.

We visited the morning market which is a lively market offering Hokkaido crab, sea urchin and salmon roe.
We explored the city by the local tram.
Explore Mt Hakodote by the ropeway- today was a bit cloudy for this.

🇯🇵 • Nara • Uji Day Tour 🇯🇵

📍 NARA

⛩️ Kasuga Taisha Shrine
One of Nara’s most famous Shinto shrines. A good tip when travelling Japan:
➡️ Red torii gates usually mean you are entering a Shinto shrine.

🦌 Nara Park
Home to the famous free roaming deer that bow for treats! Careful they eat paper too!

🏯 Todaiji Temple
A stunning Buddhist temple and home to one of Japan’s largest bronze Buddha statues.
➡️ Buddhist temples are often recognised by large wooden gates.

📍 UJI — Japan’s Matcha Capital 🍵

Uji is world famous for authentic matcha. Unlike regular green tea, matcha tea leaves are grown under shade covers before harvest, then stone-ground into a fine powder meaning you consume the whole tea leaf and receive 100% of its nutrients.

Some amazing facts we learned:
🍃 It takes around 7 hours to hand grind just 30–40g of matcha powder
🍃 Most tea regions use machines, but many Uji tea farms still hand pick leaves
🍃 Becoming a certified Matcha Master can take 30–40 years

🍵 We also visited a 500-year-old matcha shop where:
• The owner is the 16th generation of his family
• The first generation was a Samurai/Shogun
• He has worked every single day for 71 years and has never used a phone or computer!

🏯 Byodo-in Temple
One of the most beautiful temples in Japan and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Seen on the 10-yen coin.

Finished the day strolling through Omotesando Street with authentic Uji matcha treats 🍡 Matcha noodles, matcha beer and more....
