🚲🚢 Way of St James - The Camino 🚢🚲

🗓️ Days 5 - 6: Two Big Days on the Camino Kick‑Off

The group has had a fantastic couple of days exploring the region. The first day brought two big climbs — first up to the impressive statue of Notre Dame de France, crafted from melted cannons taken during the Crimean War, and then up the extraordinary Chapel of St Michel d’Aiguilhe, perched high on an ancient volcanic plug that has watched over the town for more than 1,200 years.

In the afternoon, a few brave pilgrims even tested out a stretch of the Camino in the 35Âş heat. Full points for effort; absolute stars.

The next day marked the official start of the walking. Some took the longer route, others the shorter, but everyone enjoyed a gentle meander along the riverside into town, passing the pétanque courts along the way. There’s even a great photo of the group stopping on the track for a relaxed lunch break.

Another hot day, but spirits are high and the adventure is well underway.

Our last day of the trip was spent on the outskirts of Santiago at the most enchanting vineyard.

The owner was so fabulously enthusiastic, and it was the most educational wine tasting I have ever been to!

We had a beautiful end of Tour lunch with the most tastiest steak! …what a beautiful way to wind our tour down after our amazing visits to the Amazon, to Machu Picchu and to the Galápagos Islands. 🥰…. What an amazing trip we have had!!

Our last day in the Galapagoes Islands:

Today we visited post office Bay on Floreana Island, and posted our postcards in the unique historical postal barrel many of the previously posted. Postcards were collected by people on the yacht to be delivered to those in their areas all around the world. Hopefully our postcards make it back to us via some kind soul passing our way.

We snorkeled off the beach and also deep water snorkeling today which was fabulous. We swam with sea lions who played around us, with turtles who drifted by and some were lucky enough to have a penguin shoot past them as well … others saw a black tip reef shark … so much wonder above & below the waves.

Day 5 - Galapagoes Cruise on La Pinta Yacht.

We began our morning with a visit to the Charles Darwin Research Station.
The site is epicenter of scientific research, conservation efforts, and National Park administration in the Galapagos.
The impressive giant tortoise pens are set amongst striking prickly pear cacti.
Following free time exploring the town & a yummy lunch we ventured into the Highlands of Santa Cruz Island to encounter the roaming, wild giant tortoises in their natural habitat, for an amazing up close encounter with these gentle Giants before returning to the yacht at the end of the day.

🚲🚢 Way of St James - The Camino 🚢🚲

🗓️ Days 1 - 4: And They’re Off! Pilgrims on the Move

Our Way of St James group set off at the weekend, beginning their long‑awaited pilgrimage adventure. The group set off from New Zealand full of excitement, beginning their journey with an early‑morning arrival in Dubai. After clearing customs, they were grateful for the pre‑arranged early check‑in — the perfect chance to rest, refresh and enjoy a relaxed day before continuing on.

From Dubai, they flew onward to France, touching down in Lyon where they were met and transferred to their hotel. A gentle first evening allowed everyone to settle in and soak up the atmosphere of this beautiful city.

The next day brought a relaxed morning exploring Lyon at their own pace — from rose gardens to cafés and even the Museum of Illusions — before travelling on to Le Puy. After checking in, the group gathered for drinks as Stu and Olivier shared Camino history and handed out shells and credential books. Later, they walked up to the magnificent Cathedral of Notre Dame du Puy‑en‑Velay, arriving just as mass concluded, with the haunting organ echoing through the ancient stone. They visited the thousand‑year‑old healing stone, collected their first stamps, and wandered back down through the old town — the Camino now feeling wonderfully real.

🚲🚢Danube Boat & Bike Tour 🚢🚲

🗓️ Days 16 & 17: Salzburg Sparkle: Marathon Mornings & Alpine Views

After farewelling their wonderful crew in Passau, the group made the easy drive to Salzburg and checked into the beautiful Hotel Goldener Hirsch — a UNESCO‑listed gem dating back to 1407.

Some of the group headed straight out to explore Getreidegasse, while others enjoyed a moment of 5‑star comfort.

Dinner that evening was in a cosy historic restaurant opposite Mozart’s birthplace, complete with Wiener schnitzel, apple strudel, and plenty of laughter — a perfect finale to their river journey.

The next morning, Salzburg was buzzing with marathon energy. With runners streaming past the hotel, the group had front‑row seats before meeting their guide, Julia, for a walking tour of the old town. She brought Salzburg’s rich history to life — from Roman roots and prince‑archbishops to Mozart’s early years and the quirky merchant symbols still hanging above shopfronts.

Crossing the Salzach River, the group wandered through the elegant Mirabell Gardens, famous from The Sound of Music, before finishing at Mozart’s Birthplace.
With a little free time left, some guests rode the funicular up to Hohensalzburg Fortress for breathtaking views of the snow‑capped Alps — a spectacular way to end their Salzburg stay.

Two days filled with charm, history, and a whole lot of Austrian magic.

Next stop: Munich, Dubai, and then home — heading back with full hearts and fabulous memories!

Galapagos Day 3:

Yesterday we visited Urbina Bay on the Western coast of Isabela Island, a geographical marvel, resulting from the uplifting of the ocean floor.
We walked amongst the wild giant tortoises and the beautifully golden Galapagos land iguanas.
Later we snorkeled , we saw brightly colored fish & more turtles than we could count!.. They were drifting with the swell along side us. We even saw the very rare Galapagoes shark!… even our guide had never seen one before.
High on the cliffs above, Tagus Cove is ancient graffiti from pirates and Buccaneers throughout history.
We walked up part of the volcano to get a beautiful view across this incredible land and sea behind.

Day two in the Galapagos:

Today we explored Isabella Island by inflatable dinghies along the coast line. We went snorkeling with green turtles & colorful fish and then we wandered across enormous old lava flows with wildlife everywhere!.

This afternoon we moved onto Fernandina Island, the youngest and most pristine in the archipelago.

We saw the very rare Galapagos penguin, and watched flightless, comrades, swim and dive.

At night we went star gazing from the top of our boat where we could see both Southern & Northern constellations from our vantage point here at the equator.
