If yesterday was about dramatic landscapes, today was about great riding.

Our journey carried us further along the spectacular cliff roads of the Gorge du Tarn, where the route twists and turns beneath towering limestone walls. Tunnels carved directly into the sheer rock face and an endless ribbon of curves made for a memorable start to the day.

From there we wound our way through the forests and mountains of the Cévennes National Park, enjoying quiet roads, sweeping bends and ever-changing scenery. As the day unfolded, the landscape transformed once again as we arrived at the spectacular Gorges de l'Ardèche.

Here the road traces the edge of the canyon, delivering one breathtaking viewpoint after another. Smooth roads, dramatic cliffs and sweeping river vistas combined to create one of those riding days where you never quite want to stop.

By evening we rolled into the elegant town of Uzès, where cobbled streets, lively squares and Provençal charm provided the perfect finish to another outstanding day. After the heat of the road, a cold beer in the town square was a very welcome reward.

The riding has been incredible. The variety of landscapes has been even better.

Today felt like a journey through the heart of rural France.

Leaving the medieval walls of Carcassonne behind, we headed into the wild landscapes of the Grand Causses and Cévennes regions, where quiet roads weave through rolling countryside, deep valleys and timeless villages.

One of the highlights of the day was our stop at the beautiful village of Brousse-le-Château. Perched high above the Tarn River, its medieval castle stands proudly on a rocky outcrop, watching over the valley much as it has for centuries. Stone houses, narrow lanes and sweeping river views made it easy to see why it's considered one of France's most beautiful
villages.

From there, the scenery only became more dramatic.

Following the Tarn River deeper into the Gorge du Tarn, the road clung to towering limestone cliffs as turquoise water wound its way through the valley below. Around every bend was another spectacular view — sheer rock walls, hidden villages and roads that seemed purpose-built for motorcycles.

As if the day wasn't impressive enough already, we also rode beneath the magnificent Millau Viaduct. Soaring high above the valley floor, its elegant structure feels less like a bridge and more like a work of art suspended in the sky.

By evening we arrived in La Malène, nestled in the heart of the gorge and surrounded by some of the most spectacular scenery of the entire tour.

Today delivered everything we love about motorcycle travel — incredible roads, fascinating history, unforgettable landscapes and discoveries you simply won't find on your own.

Today the motorcycles stayed parked while we stepped back nearly a thousand years in time.

Carcassonne is one of those rare places that exceeds expectations. Behind its enormous stone walls lies a maze of cobbled streets, hidden courtyards, ancient towers and stories waiting around every corner.

Some riders spent the day exploring the castle ramparts and battlements, others wandered
through the medieval lanes discovering cafés, shops and quiet corners tucked away from the crowds.

A few simply found a sunny terrace, ordered a coffee (or perhaps a glass of wine or beer) and let the world drift by.

Touring isn't only about the roads. It's also about the places those roads lead you to, and Carcassonne is undoubtedly one of the most memorable destinations of the journey.

This evening everyone will head off in different directions to enjoy dinner at their leisure before we saddle up once again tomorrow for the next chapter of our adventure.

Three countries. One incredible day. ️

Today we crossed Spain, Andorra and France — a ride that felt less like a day's touring and more like a journey across worlds.

The morning began amongst the mountains of Catalonia before climbing into Andorra, where winding roads thread through dramatic valleys and rugged peaks. From there, we continued north into France, where the landscape slowly changed once again.

The roads carried us through Cathar country, a region rich in history, mystery and spectacular scenery. Ancient villages appeared around bends, while ruined hilltop castles stood watch over the countryside as they have for centuries.

A highlight of the day was our stop at the remarkable village of Le Mas-d'Azil, where the road passes directly through a vast natural cave — one of those places that simply has to be seen to be believed.

Then, late in the day, came our first glimpse of Carcassonne.

Even after seeing photographs, nothing quite prepares you for the sight of Europe's largest fortified medieval city rising above the landscape. Towers, ramparts and stone walls stretching as far as the eye can see.

Tonight we're staying just outside the ancient gates, ready to explore one of France's most remarkable historic treasures tomorrow.

This morning we woke to mountain views and the quiet charm of Azet before setting off for another spectacular day in the Pyrenees.

The road climbed steadily towards the Col du Portillon, where Spain and France seem to blend seamlessly together amongst some of the most beautiful scenery in the region. Every turn revealed another postcard view — rushing rivers, green alpine meadows and towering peaks stretching into the distance.

Descending into the Aran Valley, we passed through traditional stone villages where life still moves at a gentler pace. It's these unexpected moments that often become the highlights of a tour — a village square, a mountain café, a conversation with a local.

By late afternoon we arrived in La Seu d'Urgell, one of Catalonia's most historic towns.

Tonight we're staying in a beautifully restored former convent, where centuries of history meet modern comfort.

Another day of unforgettable roads, incredible scenery and the simple pleasure of travelling by motorcycle through one of Europe's great mountain regions with great people.

🏍️ Must-Ride NZ: #4 The Forgotten World Highway

Some roads take you somewhere.

This one takes you back in time.

The Forgotten World Highway winds its way through some of the most remote and untouched countryside in New Zealand. It's a road of endless corners, steep saddles, native forest, and tiny settlements that seem frozen in another era.

Every bend reveals something new—a dramatic valley, a weathered farmhouse, a stretch of rainforest, or another perfect ribbon of tarmac disappearing into the distance.

Then there's Whangamōmona.

Population: small.
Character: enormous.

Declared an independent republic in 1989, this quirky little town is one of the most memorable stops on any North Island motorcycle adventure. Grab a coffee, get your passport stamped, and soak up a slice of classic rural New Zealand.

The Forgotten World Highway isn't just a road.

It's an experience.

Today was one for the bucket list.

Some roads become legendary for a reason, and today we rode three of the greatest mountain passes in the Pyrenees.

Crossing from Spain into France, we climbed the Col du Pourtalet before tackling the famous Col d'Aubisque — a road that seems to have been designed specifically for motorcyclists.

Endless curves, dramatic mountain scenery and views that stretch to the horizon in every direction.

Then came the big one.

The mighty Col du Tourmalet.

Known around the world through the Tour de France, riding this iconic pass on a motorcycle is something truly special. Hairpins, high alpine scenery and the sense of history that comes with every kilometre make it an unforgettable experience.

The cameras were working overtime today.
After a day packed with legendary roads, we arrived in the tiny mountain hamlet of Azet, where a warm welcome, local hospitality and a fantastic meal were waiting for us.

If there was ever a day that captured the spirit of the Pyrenees, this was it.

Not every great touring day needs a motorcycle.

After several incredible days in the saddle, today was an opportunity to slow the pace and enjoy one of the most beautiful hotels of the tour.

Some riders chose to explore the surrounding countryside, others wandered up to the
historic Torraza de Larredé for panoramic views across the valley. A few simply found a comfortable chair by the pool and perfected the art of doing absolutely nothing.

One of the joys of motorcycle travel is finding places you'd never normally visit and having time to properly enjoy them. Larrede is exactly that kind of place.

The mountains aren't going anywhere, and tomorrow we'll be back chasing passes and switchbacks. For today, it was about good food, good company and taking a moment to appreciate just how special this journey has already been.

Today delivered another classic Pyrenees riding day.

Leaving Sos del Rey Católico behind, we followed the shores of the stunning Yesa Reservoir before the road began to climb skyward into the mountains. With every twist and turn, the scenery became more dramatic — sweeping valleys, rugged peaks and endless ribbons of tarmac drawing us deeper into the heart of the Pyrenees.

A quick lunch stop at Venta de Juan Pito provided the perfect excuse to refuel with a few delicious pintxos, grab a group photo and soak up the mountain views before tackling the spectacular Belagua Pass. Along the way we shared the road with local residents of the four-legged variety, as Pyrenean cows and horses casually grazed beside — and occasionally wandered across — the road, reminding us who really rules the mountains here.

Crossing briefly into France, we tackled the historic Somport Pass before stopping at the magnificent Canfranc Station. Once Europe's largest railway station, today it stands beautifully restored and remains one of the most impressive buildings in the Pyrenees.

As the sun set over the mountains this evening, we gathered on the hotel terrace in Larrede, sharing stories, great food and a glass or two while looking out across the valley below.

Days like this remind us that some of the best roads are often the ones less travelled.

🏍️ Must-Ride NZ: #3 Gentle Annie

If there was ever a road built for motorcycles, this might be it.

Stretching between Napier and Taihape, Gentle Annie is one of those roads that seems to have been designed by riders, for riders. Long sweeping curves, rolling hill country, vast stations, and hardly another vehicle in sight.

The ride climbs steadily through the heart of the North Island, revealing ever-changing views of farmland, native bush, and distant mountain ranges. On a clear day you'll even catch glimpses of mighty Mt Ruapehu standing guard on the horizon.

What we love most about Gentle Annie is the feeling of space. Out here, there's no rush, no crowds, and no distractions—just you, your motorcycle, and kilometre after kilometre of spectacular riding.

It's roads like this that remind us why we ride.

And yes, it's one of the highlights of our Twin Island Tour. 😉
