InStudio Ltd. Antique Restorers and Decorative Artists InStudio is a comprehensive, reliable antique restoration and decorative painting company. He is now back in industry.

We are an Auckland-based company. Johan the principle restorer, professionally trained in the Netherlands. Johan worked as a restoration artist for Queen Beatrix on the Royal Palace restoration project and offers 30 years experience in the field of antique restoration and decorative art in the Netherlands and in New Zealand. Until 2009 Johan was employed by Unitec where he lectured for six years on this subject.

Last project at the Scientology Church in Grafton , restoring the library. The bookcases look fantastic. spend a good 3-4 months here, contracting to Canam. Lots of joinery work, panel and door restoration.Nice change from the workshop. See earlier post April 8.

Copper leaf behind glass: doors, panel and bathroom bowls. Struggled with adhesion, but finally got this process sussed. It looks really cool and will age sympathetically, nice and dark. I ll developed a method to apply metal leaf (incl copper) on acrylic sheet as well.

This barnhouse table is produced in our workshop. A very nice example of a indoor/outdoor table , rustic and today. Timber used is macrocarpa, this is low cost and low maintenance. We made French provincial tables also,(this one is an american design) in oak and walnut.

Currently we are working on the restoration of a large building in Grafton. Much of the interior is fitted out in rimu panneling and joinery. Parts of the room lay out is changed, doors are moved, deleted or added. The panneling is than reinstated, recreated and some mouldings and other parts need matching.
A nice change of scenery from the workshop.
Will add more pics closer to competion later.

The world is delaminating!!! Sections came off (new Zealand) and parts were loose. Rice starch paste proved to do the trick, clean and reversible. The clamping proved to be a challenge. I had to made a contraption with bungees and pads.

This a a great example of how the French used to decorate their instruments. No inch left undecorated. There is quite a bit of damage/loss on the lid, and also the paint is cracking. The key board cover and the legs all have gesso damage and some old repairs and over-paint.

Nice old mantle clock. Top warped and most of the gilding gone.
The black surface needed polishing and the gilded incised decoration was gone also. All the brass castings are re-gilded also.
A nice overall challenge with a fine outcome.
