Rocky had a brilliant time visiting Wellington over the weekend, soaking up vistas and sunsets. Rocky, being the determined penguin he is, was hell-bent on paying a visit to , one of New Zealand's most impressive and biodiverse sanctuaries. Our Tour Leader did tell him that these folks were backing the little spotted kiwi for Bird of the Year, but there was no stopping him! Rocky sneaked on in, and not only did he get to enjoy this beautiful, tranquil landscape but he also got to meet some of his fellow natives - stopping to have a chinwag with a kaka and tuatara.

Rocky’s adventures continue with a visit to Taupō. Did you know the Tawaki Piki Toka Eastern Rockhopper Penguin is flightless? Well, thanks to the team at AJ Hackett Bungy New Zealand, Rocky experienced the wind beneath his wings for the first time as he soared a whopping 47 metres. And what an exhilarating experience it was!

Rocky’s officially on a high, and you’d make him even chirpier if you gave him a vote for Bird of the Year 🐧

And voting for the Bird of the Year 2025 is officially open!

To celebrate the occasion, Rocky, our hand-crocheted Tawaki Piki Toka Eastern Rockhopper Penguin, has joined us for a New Zealand adventure!

Rocky, fitted out with his little red backpack, is visiting the mainland of Aotearoa. He's joining as many Intrepid tours as he can whilst raising awareness for Forest & Bird and their annual Bird of the Year campaign! Rocky joined his first small group travel tour on Friday in Tāmaki Makaurau and has been on quite the journey already as he winds down south, making memories en route and saying kia ora to everyone he meets.

A big thank you to our friends at Fullers360, The Wine Tasting Company, M Social Auckland and Hobbiton Movie Set who have made Rocky feel so welcome and showed him a great time over the weekend.
