Muriwai Beach Horse Treks has been rated by The New Zealand Herald as one of the Top Five best horse treks. We have treks to suit all abilities from beginners to experienced people, with horses and ponies to match each riders level. We cater for all group sizes from small intimate ones to large corporate functions, team building etc. We provide NZ Safety approved helmets for all riders and wet weather gear when needed. For beginners or more novice riders we give instructions on how to ride the horse at the beginning of the ride to make everyone feel comfortable and relaxed during the ride. We trek along the picturesque black sands of Muriwai Beach on New Zealand’s West coast and up through the enchanting forestry of Woodhill. We are located less than 40 minutes northwest of the Auckland CBD and just a short 15 minutes from the end of the North Western motorway. Here at Muriwai Beach horse treks, as Auckland horse riding specialists we also offer lessons for beginner riders through to the more advanced riders on either your own horse or one of our star MBHT horses, and a schooling/breaking service is also available. Bookings are essential and we provide both tourists and locals the best West Auckland horse rides. All our guides are mature, experienced and extremely capable in providing all customers with the best experience possible. British website, Travel Essentials, one of the UK’s leading independent online travel essentials providers championed Muriwai Beach Horse Treks in their article on the Top 10 Happiest Cities in The World. Horse care is never-ending with a herd, but it’s honestly one of my favourite parts of the business ❤️

For all our keen little riders who want a regular pony experinace learning all things horses - get in contact with our head coach at our local Waimauku Pony Club ;-) this is not one to be missed…. 🐴

NO PONY? NO PROBLEM! 🐴

If your child is horse-mad but doesn't have a pony of their own, our Riders Without Horses Programme is the perfect place to start. Designed for ages 5–13, this fun, hands on 10-week course teaches pony handling, care and riding skills, with no pony required. Riders will earn their first NZPCA certificate, make new friends, and discover everything Pony Club has to offer!

Behind the scenes at Muriwai Beach Horse Treks… 🐴

Our day starts around 7am, and it takes three of us to feed, groom, health check, and get all 18 horses ready for the day.

And here’s something most people don’t know… we don’t actually live at the beach! Every day we transport 11–13 horses in our custom horse transporters before the first riders even arrive.

It’s a huge mission, but seeing you experience the magic of riding along Muriwai’s iconic black sand beach makes every early morning worth it. 🤎🌊
