Slovenia – WOW! What a gorgeous country. 🇸🇮

We’ve just had five fantastic days riding through Slovenia and it really is incredibly beautiful. So green, with gorgeous valleys, spectacular mountains and lovely people to welcome you.

We climbed a few mountains along the way — and some of those roads were seriously steep! Even the cars were struggling around a few of the corners. 😂

It’s an excellent destination for cycling and hiking. So, so many hikers! There’s also the 500km Walk of Peace here, which I can definitely see a few of my “walking clients” tackling in the future.

A few observations for anyone considering a self-drive holiday — fuel is around €1.60 a litre and parking seems to cost pretty much everywhere. In Bovec, it was around €3 an hour, even overnight. Some of the mountain passes also charge you to drive over them. All good to know when budgeting for a trip!

Wine is cheap, figs are in season and the bakeries are excellent. 😂

Slovenia, you’ve been fabulous.

Next stop… Croatia! 🇭🇷

WHY DOES BOOKING WITH A REAL TRAVEL PROFESSIONAL STILL MATTER?

This recent Which? investigation is certainly worth a read. Their team managed to list 10 Downing Street as a holiday home on a major online booking platform – and the fake property actually became bookable.

It’s a pretty powerful reminder that just because something appears on a well-known website, it doesn’t automatically mean you should book it without doing your homework.

Could you sometimes find something cheaper online yourself? Absolutely.

But there’s value in knowing **who you booked with, who you can call, and who is in your corner when you need help.**

I am currently in Europe (working from here) on a slightly different time zone. Always up at 4am Slovenia time (2pm NZ time) to catch the last 4 hours of the working day in NZ

Currently in Slovenia. It’s a new country for me so very exciting. I know a few of my clients have been here and say wonderful things so had to check it out myself.

It’s super central and easy accessible from Italy, Austria, Croatia and Hungary.

Some highlights and observations so far are below.

I know a lot of my clients love the Camino Walk but who has heard of the Walk of Peace? That’s in this area too. Sorry we are busy biking so no pictures of the hiking trails.
