Changes have been introduced to the Active Investor Plus Visa from 1 June 2026, with philanthropy now recognised as part of eligible investment options.

Under the Growth category, applicants can now invest up to 20% of their total investment into approved charitable causes and selected Department of Conservation projects.

New requirements also apply around which charities qualify and how philanthropic investments are assessed.

New English language requirements now apply to AEWV skill level 3 roles.

From 1 June 2026, applicants in these occupations will need to meet minimum English language requirements as part of their visa application.

The requirement is for basic, everyday English used in common situations, not advanced fluency.

There are also exemptions available for some current AEWV holders applying for another visa before their current one expires.

If you’re planning to apply for an AEWV or unsure how these changes may affect you or your staff, reach out to our team.

New Zealand’s refreshed Active Investor Plus programme is already reshaping investor migration into New Zealand.

Since April 2025:
• Over NZ$4 billion in committed investment
• 688 applications lodged
• Investors applying from the US, China, Hong Kong, Germany and beyond

What’s driving the momentum?
The lower investment threshold through the Growth category, faster pathways to residence, and increasing global interest in New Zealand as a stable long-term destination.

New Zealand's Active Investor Plus Visa is an attractive option given current world events, many countries closing residence by investment pathways and the attractiveness of our country as a place to live, work, invest, raise a family and play.

If you’d like to understand how the Active Investor Plus programme works, or how the recent property changes may apply to your situation, our team can help.

A declined visa application does not always mean the end of the road, but it does mean you need clear, realistic advice about what options may still be available.

Special Cases and Appeals are complex areas of immigration law. In some situations, there may be grounds to challenge a decision or request consideration outside standard policy, but these pathways are highly specialised and approvals are not common.

We believe migrants deserve honest advice, careful strategy, and a realistic understanding of their chances from the beginning.

If your visa has been declined, expired, or your situation has changed, speak with a Licensed Immigration Adviser to understand where you stand.
