Sarah Gaffney Travel Managers

Sarah Gaffney Travel Managers Fully mobile travel broker, based in Auckland, with 28yrs experience creating memorable holidays…. Everyone is different, and the difference is in the details.

I caught the travel bug after going on my OE in my early 20’s. I’ve enjoyed creating holidays for my clients over the last 25 years that are both memorable and great value for money. I like to share my knowledge & ideas, and feel privileged to have long lasting relationships with my clients. In the days of the internet & people being able to book their own travel, I’m often asked “Do people still

use travel agents?”. My response is simple, “yes they do, this will be even more advisable in a post Covid world due to constant border closures & government restrictions. If you’re like me, your time is valuable, you still want the personal service, the backup of a professional, someone who has the resources, contacts, & knowledge to help you plan what is right for you as it’s not a matter of one size fits all. The countries I have visited include:
Europe: Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, UK (including Ireland & Scotland), France, Monaco, Andorra, Spain, Italy, Vatican City, Switzerland, Austria, Hungry, Slovakia, Greece. Asia: Turkey, United Arab Emirates, Maldives, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Japan. Africa: Botswana, South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe. South Pacific: Australia, Fiji, Samoa, Cook Islands, Tahiti, New Caledonia. Americas: Canada, USA, Mexico. Of all my travel experiences, Africa captured my heart. There are no words to describe how it feels to come across a pride of lions sleeping during the day only to return early the following morning to watch them feast on a fresh kill, or getting a little too close for comfort to an elephant that doesn’t want you in his path, or be soaked by the force of the water teaming over the Victoria Falls. There’s definitely something for everyone. I am a CLIA cruise accredited travel professional which allows me to match the right cruise to your requirements. I also hold a National Certificate in Travel, Level 4. As you can appreciate, I'm working reduced hours due to Covid-19. I'm still checking emails regularly however my response time maybe longer than usual. If you have an urgent query please leave a message on mobile 027 224 7082 & I'll reply ASAP. I would ask for your patience and understanding during this time. Your holiday leave and travel dollars are precious, so why put your faith in a faceless, nameless website? You deserve expert advice and value for your dollar. Go retro and use a travel agent!

VISA & BORDER REMINDERS

Entry-Exit System (ESS) - November 2024
The European Union is rolling out the new Entry-Exit System (ESS) from 10 November 2024. This is designed to tighten border security for non-EU travellers, including those from the United Kingdom. This automated system will require New Zealanders to scan their passports and biometric data at self-service kiosks every time they enter or exit the EU.

Please prepare for potential delays as we are creeping into peak periods, allow for extra time for stress-free travel!

Day 5: Ketchikan - it’s only accessible by air and sea. It’s the self-proclaimed “Salmon Capital of the World” and attracts nearly a million visitors each year, many of them arriving by cruise ship (there were 3 in port when we were there). After a wander through town we took a hovercraft to an island where we were treated to an abundance of Eagles 😍

Day 4: Sitka - Accessible only by air or sea, Sitka offers incredible scenery, fishing, hiking & abundant wildlife. It was a major Russian port for 63 years.
Fun fact: The 2009 film The Proposal, starring Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds, was set in Sitka.

Day 3: Skagway, with a population of just over 1000 it’s home to gold-rush-era buildings. It has one supermarket which has fresh produce delivered every Monday and by Tuesday it’s sold out! Lots of excursions on offer here from the White Pass Train which was built 125yrs ago, the Yukon Suspension Bridge (about an hours drive from Skagway which you’ll need your passport for as you cross the Canadian border), Chilkoot Trail Hike, Rafting, Ziplining, Glacier landings or if you’re not wanting anything too adventurous, you could opt for a wander around the quaint town and take a Red Onion Saloon Brothel tour with a Madam as your guide!

Day 2: Juneau, the capital of Alaska, is an Island and only accessible by plane, boat or as the locals say, birth canal 😂
Loads of excursions available, I went whale watching which was great, however there is also dog sledding, kayaking, fishing and hiking.

Day 1: The spectacular Hubbard Glacier is North America's largest tidewater glacier. It is 76 miles long, 7 miles wide and 600 feet tall at its terminal face (350 feet exposed above the waterline and 250 feet below the waterline).
Also managed to fit in a cooking class, what a magical view of the Glacier from the kitchen in the S.A.L.T. LAB, yummy crab cakes and dip 😋

In the days of the internet & people being able to book their own travel, I’m often asked “Do people still use travel agents?”. My response is simple, “yes they do. People can also cook but they still eat out at restaurants when they’re after something special”. Another misconception is that it will cost more using a travel agent, which is simply not the case. If you’re like me your time is valuable, you still want the personal service, the backup of a professional, someone who has the resources, contacts, & knowledge to help you plan what is right for you as it’s not a matter of one size fits all.
