Silverstream X-Factor made it four supremes from four shows when she won supreme champion huacaya at the 2025 New Zealand Royal Show in Christchurch.

She has certainly proved she has the X factor. Despite tempting offers from Europe we have decided to keep her for her breeding potential.
She has brought much happiness and delight to Silverstream Alpaca and we cannot wait to see her progeny in the future.

25 years alpaca farming and Sheryl and I had never seen Vicunas, that was until we visited the Atacama desert in Northern Chile.
Seeing vicunas roaming free in their natural environment at approximately 4000 metres above sea level was truly amazing.

Sheryl and I have just returned from a fabulous six week holiday to South America and Antarctica. It takes a lot to keep me away from the show ring but I am so pleased we made the decision to go.

Our travels included the El Tatio geysers in the Atacama desert
(minus 10 degrees/4200 metres above sea level), the famous 64km W Trek in Torre del Paine National Park in Patagonia, the Perito Moreno Glacier and Mt Fitz Roy in Argentina, an Australis cruise from Punta Arenas to Ushaia including Cape Horn and a luxury 18 day expedition cruise with Silversea to the Falkland Islands, South Georgia Islands, South Shetland Islands, Elephant Island and the Antarctic Peninsula.
To see Antarctica with clear blue skies, mirror- like calm waters, huge glaciers, snow, icebergs and wildlife everywhere was truly an amazing experience. Lots of whales, seals and orcas kept us focussed at all times.

South Georgia with its huge King Penguin populations (over 200,000 penguins), Elephant seals and fur seals was a sight to behold.

Now back to mowing lawns, matings, cleaning cottages and farm tours but loving it.

A very big thank you to Wayne Allison, Kevin Burgess and the rest of the 2025 National Alpaca Show working group for a wonderful show. Kit and Sheryl are still on cloud nine at the show results that came their way.
Supreme Champion Huacaya Fleece and Supreme Champion
Huacaya (Breed) and both results came from a very special intermediate female, aptly named Silverstream X-Factor.
In one of the most definitive decisions at a National Show, the judge commented positively on each of the age groups in the final lineup before stating that she could not go past the intermediate female as she was absolutely stunning - with her fleece qualities she has it all. This is the first time in the 25 year history of the National Show that a female has won the double of supreme champion fleece and breed and only the third time that a huacaya has won the double.
X-Factor is sired by Kurrawa Legends Thrill Seeker out of Silverstream Rosebud.
A very big thank you to Natasha Clarke who put up with hot blustery weather to judge our show and also many thanks to Mary-Anne Pruden (chief steward), husband Mark (ring steward) and Anne Rogers who convened the National Fleece show and to Barbara Lomax who worked tirelessly assisting Anne. Finally a big thank you to Barry Bishop who was our MC and first time auctioneer - Barry's efforts raised over $12,000
