Maguire and Harford Architects Maguire and Harford Architects strives to create buildings and spaces that are enjoyble to use and experience.

Maguire and Harford Architects was formed in 2012 by Ross Maguire and Braden Harford and our small team is based in Christchurch. Our experience is found in work around New Zealand including various residential, educational, sports and leisure facilities, and commercial projects. With each new project we bring a high level of enthusiasm and building experience. We strive to help create buildings a

nd spaces that are enjoyable to use and experience, and believe that a high level of input and design collaboration with the users of a building contribute to this.

RAKAMAOMAO | South Hornby School
Our newly completed build at SHS is based on the idea of two teaching hubs encompassing a central creative space.
The two areas reflect the school’s cultural narrative through colour.
Te Māuru-e-taki-nei (Nor-West) reflects the hot, dry winds of summer. Red tones in the walls and koru carpet motifs face the prevailing Nor’West, celebrating energy and movement.
Pūnui-o-toka (Southerly) embodies the cold winds of winter – a space for reflection as students prepare to take flight. Blue interiors honour the seniors, positioned as kaitiaki and rangatira at the front of the school.

RAKAMAOMAO | South Hornby School
The new teaching hub at South Hornby School is named after the winds from the North and South, Rakamaomao symbolises adaptability and connection.
It sits within a whakapapa of four winds already present at Te Manu Tukutuku, linking this new space to the wider school environment and its stories.
The name for the building itself; Te Manu Tukutuku was gifted by Ngai Tahu and means “The Kite” used for sending messages in this area.
