New Post Study Work Visa Options for International Students Studying in New Zealand

Planning to study in New Zealand? New work visa options for international graduates will be available from 16 November 2026.

Eligible graduates may benefit from:

6-Month Short-term Graduate Work Visa — SGWV
For eligible NZQCF Level 5–7 graduates who do not qualify for a Post Study Work Visa.

Post Study Work Visa — PSWV Update
Graduate diploma holders may qualify if they also hold a bachelor’s degree, including a bachelor’s degree completed outside New Zealand.

Key Eligibility Points

Must have studied full-time in New Zealand for at least 24 weeks
English language, foundation, and bridging qualifications are excluded
Graduate diploma study must be completed entirely in New Zealand
Visa application must be made within 3 months of the relevant student visa expiring

🎄 Immigration New Zealand Christmas & Summer Holiday Hours – Important Update! 🌞

The holiday season is almost here, and Immigration New Zealand (INZ) has confirmed their operating hours and processing timelines. Please take note of the following dates:

📞 Phone Line Hours
INZ contact centre will operate 6am–10pm, Monday–Friday (as normal), but will be closed on these public holidays:

25 December – Christmas Day

26 December – Boxing Day

1 January – New Year’s Day

2 January – Day after New Year’s Day

📝 Application Processing During Holidays

INZ offices will be closed on public holidays and will have reduced services from 25 December to 5 January.

Only a small number of staff will be available for urgent or emergency cases (e.g., bereavement, illness, family emergencies).

Standard visa processing will resume on 5 January 2026.
