Kicked off what’s shaping up to be a busy season with a stunning day on the Lake Dunstan Trail, joined by great friends. The trail’s in amazing condition, and the lunch (plus a glass of Sauvignon Blanc) at Carrick Vineyard was the perfect highlight. Can’t wait to share these incredible views with my passengers on the Lake Dunstan Explorer this season!

Winter Cycle Trail Tips From Us🧣

🚴‍♂️ Essential Tips for Winter Cycling on the Lake Dunstan Trail!

Ready to hit the trail this winter?

Remember these key tips: Wear gloves and a neck warmer - these are absolutely essential, dress in layers you can adjust as you embark on the hills, and choose windproof gear to combat the wind chill as you cycle.

Local Insight: winter is VERY still, with little to no wind. But a windproof layer will still help with the wind chill you create as you move.

Don’t forget to hydrate and bring fuelling snacks along with a flask for a hot beverage to keep you warm inside out.

Winter might be still, but your adventure awaits with every pedal!

We had this lovely Scottish couple onboard recently with their tandem bike …the first one we’ve carried.

Both doctors, they have been living on the West Coast for the past year and a half with Justin practising as a doctor supporting the local medical team on the coast.

They bought this bike all the way from Scotland and have biked all over NZ they head back to Scotland after their sabbatical in about a month!

We absolutely love meeting everyone who joins us on board and hearing their stories 🙌🏼

It was a few weeks ago now, but we were thrilled to support the Southern Lakes Swimming Club during their annual swim to Coffee & Burger Afloat. The Lake Dunstan Explorer was there to ensure everyone's safety, carrying warm clothes and providing a cosy ride back for those who chose to relax after their swim with some warm drinks and food.

It's always an honour to support our local clubs and be a part of such energetic community events! Here's to many more swims and safe adventures on Lake Dunstan.

Celebrating Trish & Nick's Bikes & Boats Experience

About a year ago, we joined hands with local businesses to offer a dream prize, and we were thrilled to see Trish & Nick from Dunedin enjoying it.

This is them on day 2 of their Bikes & Boats Experience on the Lake Dunstan Trail with us, following a day on the Roxburgh Gorge Trail with Clutha River Cruises.

Their win was for a cause – they generously donated to the I Have a Dream Charitable Trust NZ, which aims to positively impact children, their families, and communities through long-term mentoring and support.

This amazing couple's experience, captured beautifully by Luxury Trail Company, truly reflects the joy and adventure they're having.

🍂 Autumn Kit List for Your Lake Dunstan Trail Adventure! 🌤️🎒

Autumn's here.Here's your essential kit list to make the most of your ride:

💦 Hydration is Key: Bring a sturdy water bottle or (even better) a camelback. The temperatures may be cooling off but hydration is still hugely important!
🚴 Spare Inner Tubes and Pump: The other day we even had a chap who had to replace his tube on his ride down to start the trail. You never know when you might need a spare. So a spare inner tube and a pump are a great idea to carry with you.
🍻Cards/Cash for Treats: Money for a coffee, lunch or well deserved glass of wine or cold beer. It's thirsty work out there! Yep, there are coffee and vino stops at the start, end and along the way!
🍂Layer Up: Autumn is stunning but days can be unpredicatble. No matter the forecast make sure you bring plenty of layers to pile on (or strip off!) as the day progresses.
😎Sunglasses: Sunglasses - the Autumn rays are incredible but can come at you from quite an angle, so a good pair of sunnies is always advisable.

These pieces of kit are just the basics, but we reckon they are the key pieces that will help ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience on the trail.

Spotted this well camouflaged local on Lake Dunstan recently. He’s a well rounded bachelor who’s unlikely to get a cold this winter as he had eaten every Rosehip Berry (high in vitamin c) in sight in the bay he currently calls home. He’s also just far enough off the trail to not be any trouble to those riders fortunate enough to be enjoying the awesome Lake Dunstan Trail in all its autumn glory.
