🐍 We thought we were feeding the eels... but one of them had its eye on Cooper instead! 🐕

Today Mum, Astrid and I, along with Cooper and Dora, headed back to Liffey Springs Reserve to visit the resident eels and give them a feed.

Watching these incredible creatures glide through the crystal-clear spring water is always a highlight, but today brought a little extra excitement! One of the larger eels became a bit too interested in Cooper and actually came right up onto the bank, appearing to have a go at his tail while he wasn't looking! 😲

Thankfully Cooper was completely oblivious and carried on exploring as usual, while Dora kept a close eye on the action.

Liffey Springs is such a fantastic family-friendly spot, with beautiful clear water, plenty of wildlife, and the chance to get up close with New Zealand's fascinating longfin eels.

🎥 Wait until the end to see just how close Cooper came to making a new slippery friend!

Have you ever had a wildlife encounter that caught you by surprise?

Elephant Rocks 🤍

Big skies, quiet country roads, muddy little shoes, caravan views, and towering limestone giants that look like they've been dropped into the middle of nowhere.

This weekend we stayed at the Elephant Rocks POP (Elephant Rocks – Farmland owned by Avonlea Dairies Ltd), waking up to incredible sunrises and ending our days under crystal-clear starry skies.

Our afternoon was spent exploring both Elephant Rocks and the fossil displays at Anatini Farm. From a child's perspective, Elephant Rocks is one giant natural playground—rocks to climb, caves to explore, pathways to follow, and endless opportunities for imaginative adventures. One minute you're hunting for dinosaurs, the next you're an explorer discovering hidden treasures.

What makes this place even more special is its history. These limestone formations were created around 25 million years ago when the area was covered by a shallow sea. Just down the road at Anatini Farm, fossils help tell the story of that ancient underwater world.

Fun fact: if Elephant Rocks looks familiar, that's because scenes from The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe were filmed here, with the rocks transformed into Aslan's camp.

One of our favourite memories was sharing the paddock with some very curious cows. They wandered right up to the caravan and even decided the girls' ball looked like fun! 🐄⚽

A quick note for fellow content creators: drones aren't permitted here, so be sure to leave them packed away.

For us, caravanning isn't about ticking places off a list. It's about slowing down, making memories, and truly experiencing the places we visit.

Elephant Rocks gave us all of that and more.

The kind of place that leaves you with dusty feet, tired kids, a full camera roll, and a very happy heart. ✨

✨ Glow in the Park – Ashburton Domain ✨

Last night we headed along to the annual Glow in the Park at the Ashburton Domain, and what a fantastic evening it was! 🌟

The girls were absolutely buzzing with excitement as we wandered through the illuminated displays. The event was split into different themed areas, making it feel like a new adventure around every corner. There were giant inflatable animals, colourful light displays, and even stilt walkers roaming around entertaining the crowds.

The highlight for Chloé and Astrid was definitely the dinosaur section 🦖—the roaring dinosaurs were a huge hit and had them completely captivated!

There was plenty to keep everyone entertained, with food trucks, carnival rides, and lots of space to stroll around and take it all in. We easily spent a couple of hours exploring.

Best of all, it was a free community event and it was awesome to see so many families out enjoying themselves on a crisp, clear winter evening. Events like this are a great reminder that you don't always have to travel far or spend a fortune to make special family memories. ❤️

Have you been to Glow in the Park before? What was your favourite display? ✨
