🔧 Next up to introduce the Hey crew… meet Nate!

By day, Nate is a heavy diesel mechanic, but at home he’s a bit of a jack of all trades — caravan fixer-upper, dishwasher, Daddy, hubby and, more recently, video editor for Hey Let’s Go Caravanning! 😂

If something breaks, makes a weird noise or needs modifying, chances are Nate will have it pulled apart and be figuring out how to fix it. His mechanical knowledge definitely comes in handy when your home has wheels!

When he’s not fixing trucks or caravans, Nate loves anything involving endurance and preferably two wheels. 🚴Over the years he’s competed in the Coast to Coast twice, Challenge Wanaka Triathlon, a full IRONMAN a half Ironman, plenty of bike races and quite a few marathons. He’s incredibly modest about his sporting achievements though and definitely isn’t one to show them off — so Soph will happily do that for him! 😂

Cycling is probably his biggest passion and he’s a VERY firm believer in N+1… because apparently the correct number of bikes is always one more than you currently own. 🤦‍♀️🚲

Now the weather is warming up and the days are getting longer, he’s looking forward to getting back into some races. Even better now that we’ve been gifted an awesome bike cover from OCD covers and rack, so the bikes can come along on more of our caravan adventures!

So if you see a mechanical tip on our page, something being fixed or modified on the caravan, or Soph says “Nate reckons…” — this is the man behind it.

Next up to introduce the Hey crew… meet Chloé!

Also known as Coco, Go Go Coco and our little Chloé Cat, Chloé is our first born and pretty much started off as she means to go on… she is ALWAYS on the go! She’s busy, curious and wants to know about absolutely everything.

She’s a huge animal lover — big, small, furry, feathered or even a little slimy, she loves them all! She especially loves visiting the eels and isn't even afraid to give them a pat. 😳 But horses are something extra special to her — or “hoiho” as she calls them in Te Reo. Maybe they'll become a lifelong passion!

Chloé is smart, creative and has an amazing imagination. She loves making up stories with her soft toys up in her bed, building creations with the magnetic tiles or Duplo, and showing off her tricks on the trampoline.

She's incredibly empathetic and gives the BEST cuddles. Although she can also be as stubborn as anything once she's made her mind up! And while Astrid is most definitely a Daddy's girl, Chloé is a Mummy's girl.

Her most special toy is her NICU teddy, given to her in hospital for her very first Easter. He still wears one of Coco's tiny prem cardies and has been very well loved over the years.

She's always ready for the next adventure, so Go Go Coco really is the perfect nickname for her!

🐾 And now to introduce the youngest member of the Hey crew… meet Astrid! 💕

Our 2½-year-old pocket rocket, Little Miss Sassy Pants and definitely the biggest personality in the smallest package. 😂

Astrid is quirky, cheeky and absolutely hilarious. She has the most contagious laugh and smile, but she can also give you a glare and frown that will stop you in your tracks! Add in an ear-piercing scream when things aren't going her way and VERY strong opinions about what she does and doesn't want, and life with Astrid is never dull!

She's stubborn, determined and knows exactly what she wants. She's also very much the little sister — if Chloé is doing something, Astrid will give it a crack too. Whether she's big enough or actually capable of doing it doesn't seem to cross her mind. 😂

She's a mega Daddy's girl and absolutely adores Nate. ❤️ She's also a huge animal lover and is always keen to get up close and say hello to whatever animals we come across on our travels.

And then there are Inky & Pinky....her two jellycat bunnies go pretty much everywhere with her. If we're heading out the door, you can almost guarantee Astrid has one tucked under each arm!

She's happiest outside, exploring, climbing, getting dirty and following Chloé around trying to do everything her big sister does.

She certainly keeps us on our toes, but we wouldn't have her any other way. ❤️

Meet Dora & Cooper — our four-legged travelling crew!

We thought it was about time we properly introduced the other two members of our family who come along for all our adventures!

🖤 Dora is our 5-year-old Mini Schnauzer… although there’s not a lot mini about her! 😂 She’s a very big Mini Schnauzer with an even bigger heart.
She has the kindest, most gentle nature, especially with the girls, and loves being part of whatever we're doing. Walks, hikes, exploring new places — she’s there! Although her favourite place at the end of the day is curled up sleeping on our bed.
We named her Dora long before we started travelling, but now that we live in a caravan and spend our time exploring, Dora the Explorer seems rather fitting!

🤍 Cooper is our little old man. He’s a Sealyham Terrier and will be 14 soon! Soph got him at six months old because he wasn't "show perfect". Their loss was definitely our gain.

Cooper has been through a lot of life with us. He's crossed Cook Strait several times when we've moved and even flew with Dora when we moved back to the South Island for Nate's old Army job! He had a back injury years ago when we lived in Palmerston North, so he's doing amazingly well for his age. He’s now completely deaf and his vision isn't the best, so the girls can be a bit much for him! He prefers the quiet life, and once they're in bed, his favourite place is on the couch beside us.

Travelling with two dogs — especially a nearly 14-year-old — definitely adds another layer to caravan life, but they're a huge part of our family and add to the craziness! They've already seen a fair bit of NZ, and now they get to continue exploring it alongside us.

Yesterday Mike very kindly invited the girls to come up to the house to help give little Wiggles her bottle. Wiggles is only 2 weeks old and the girls absolutely loved getting to feed her! It was honestly the sweetest thing watching her little tail wag away while she drank her bottle. 😍 Astrid and Chloe were completely fascinated — such a special little farm-life moment for them.

Then on our walk back to the caravan, we stopped to say hello to some of the very friendly rams, who were more than happy to come over for a bit of attention (and food! 😂).

These are the kinds of unexpected little experiences we absolutely love about caravanning — the girls getting to meet animals, learn new things and make memories along the way. ❤️

A huge thank you to Mike for letting them come and help with Wiggles. I think they would happily volunteer for bottle duty every day!

🚨 PARENTS — HOW DID WE NOT KNOW THESE EXISTED?! 🚨

If you’ve got little kids, chances are your house — or caravan in our case 😂 — is FULL of toys, books, lights and random gadgets powered by those tiny coin/button batteries....and we all know how scary those little batteries can be around curious hands.

Tonight we've stumbled across a post about these from Energizer and honestly how cool are these because we never knew that they existed.

Their newer Child Shield coin lithium batteries have some seriously clever safety features:

🔵 Colour Alert technology — if the battery comes into contact with saliva, it can turn the mouth BLUE within seconds, helping alert parents or caregivers that a battery may have been in their child’s mouth.

😖 A non-toxic bitter coating — designed to taste horrible and help discourage kids from swallowing it.

🔒 Child-resistant packaging — another layer of protection to help stop little hands getting to them in the first place.

Some of Energizer’s newer Ultimate Child Shield CR2032 batteries also include Ingestion Burn Protection, designed to help prevent burning if the battery is swallowed.

Such a clever idea for something that seems to be hiding in just about any kids toy that's on the market. 🤣

⚠️ Obviously, these safety features don’t make button batteries harmless. If you think your child may have swallowed one, it’s still an immediate medical situation — don’t wait for symptoms. In NZ, the National Poisons Centre advises going straight to hospital and calling 0800 POISON (0800 764 766) for advice.

Definitely sharing this as a little PSA for all the other parents travelling with small kids.
