Congratulations to the Ōkārito Plant Project on reaching an incredible three-year milestone. In just a few short years, this community-led initiative has made a remarkable difference in restoring the natural beauty and biodiversity of South Westland, New Zealand.
Through dedication and collaboration, the project has planted over 2,000 native trees, contributed more than 500 volunteer hours, and engaged over 18 local businesses in hands-on conservation efforts. Their work restoring native habitats, waterways, and wetlands has strengthened ecosystems and inspired a model of regenerative tourism that connects people, nature, and community.
Recognition of their efforts came with the prestigious Collaboration Award at the 2025 New Zealand Tourism Awards—an achievement that reflects their leadership in sustainable and community-driven restoration.
Congratulations once again to everyone involved in the Ōkārito Plant Project. May the next chapter bring even greater growth, connection, and regeneration. Keep up the outstanding work in protecting and nurturing Aotearoa’s natural heritage.
