Gale Cutting Track Update
Great progress on the Gale Cutting track extension! Earthworks are complete, all 13 culverts are in, the footbridge ramp is built, and fencing and the cattle stop are underway.

You can now walk or bike the full route, but please stay on the track some spots are still soft and the creek crossing is muddy. Once things dry out, we’ll add shingle to finish the surface.

👉 Parking reminder at Grand Vue Golf Course: Please don’t park on the narrow road at the end of the track or on the tee‑off area. Instead, park back on Gresham St, or use the Grand Vue Golf Club’s parking area by the clubhouse, which they’ve kindly made available.

Gunners Day commemoration this Saturday at Kennedy Park

𝐆𝐮𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐆𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐞 🪖

This Saturday, Geraldine will host a special Gunners Day commemoration in Kennedy Park. 📍

Each year on 26 May, serving and former members of Commonwealth Artillery units gather to mark Gunners Day. As this weekend is the closest weekend to the official date, former Gunners and supporters of the Royal New Zealand Artillery will be gathering in Geraldine for a social weekend and blank-firing salute.

The salute will take place at 12:00 noon on Saturday in Kennedy Park 🕛💥

The Southern Gunners, who are part of the Royal New Zealand Artillery Association, will be crewing and firing the gun for the salute. The Geraldine Military Museum is proud to support the commemoration by supplying the 25-pounder Field Gun.

Members of the public are warmly welcome to come along and watch. The gun crew will also be available after the salute to answer any questions. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦🙌

**Update: Cause identified

After the outages on Monday and again today, our team has now identified the likely cause and believe it or not, it was magpies 🐦😥

Thanks to our crew and the flexibility of our network, we were able to restore power fairly quickly on both days while we investigated the fault. This included foot patrols across rural areas and even helicopter flights to check remote back country sections of the line.

A big thank you for your patience and to those who called in with helpful information. Your eyes on the ground really do make a difference.
