Are you applying for a NZ resident visa and relying on your overseas qualifications? If yes, understanding any qualification assessment requirements is a key consideration. ๐๐
For employment-based resident visas such as the Skilled Migrant residence, Green List pathways, and Sector Agreement pathways, an International Qualification Assessment (IQA) conducted by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) is required if your qualification is not already on the List of Qualifications Exempt from Assessment (LQEA). The LQEA outlines quality-assured, approved, and accredited overseas qualifications that are equivalent to those on the New Zealand Qualifications Framework (NZQF), and hence do not require any further assessment. ๐๐
A list of the LQEA countries can be found on our website. Anyone relying on a qualification from a country not listed on the LQEA will need an IQA prior to submitting their expression of interest under the current Skilled Migrant Category (SMC), and also for visa applications under some Green List roles. ๐๐
Other exemptions from the requirement for an IQA include:
- Qualifications accredited under the Washington Accord or Sydney Accord. ๐๏ธ
- Qualifications recognised by Engineering New Zealand or IT Professionals New Zealand for certain engineering and IT roles. ๐ป
