Meet our Makers: Cathedral Cove Macadamias

Tucked into the hills behind one of New Zealand's most photographed coastlines is an orchard most visitors to Cathedral Cove never know exists.

Jill and Doug Johnston run around 1,000 macadamia trees across 17.5 fully certified organic acres, trees that were planted decades before they took over the property.

It's not a lifestyle block. It's a genuine working orchard, hand-harvested, hand-husked, done properly because that's the only way Jill and Doug know how to do it.

You could drive straight past this place and never guess what's growing up in those hills. We know better.

Meet our makers: Clevedon Buffalo Cheese

In 2007, Richard and Helen Dorresteyn imported New Zealand's first herd of milking water buffalo, sixteen of them, because they couldn't find fresh buffalo milk anywhere in the country to make their own mozzarella.

Nearly twenty years on, their farm at Clevedon runs 200-strong, and the Dorresteyns are still doing things the way they started: small batch, farm to table, nothing rushed.

Their mozzarella is the one that gets the reaction, rich, creamy, nothing like what you'll find on a supermarket shelf.

This is one of the stops on our tours that guests talk about long after they've gone home.
