I have been in two minds on sharing this, perhaps being a 70’s kid I just had a bit too much trust in society. We had an unfortunate incident yesterday, this is probably more for those in CHCH but has other applications around Kiwiland.

Before I tell the story I have to say that Chloe and Amelia are in exceptional spirits and see it as it as a “bit of fun” only because of some pretty clever work from an Uber driver.

I sent the girls to get some Sushi for lunch as I was running late to get to a funeral RIP Mr Charles Wiffen.
The girls love their independence and walking the 2kms so to the sushi place is good for them! For reference Greers Road.

The girls were walking back and a guy followed them from the shop (as he was hanging around) for about 500 metres from the shops. Luckily an Uber driver was suspicious and also followed them observing what was going on. She later told Chloe that they would speed up (being dorky sisters as Amelia walks so slow! oblivious to what was going on) and the guy would drop back and then run to catch up to be within 10 metres of them.

The Uber driver had to intervene with the girls and he just hung around and crossed the road. Chloe rang me and I picked them up (I was only about a minute away)and I called the police. Unfortunately no police showed up and the guy just walked away, in reflection the police systems must be so terrible they wouldn’t respond.
We were on the scene for about 5 minutes (talking to the police on the phone) and when we left we passed him about half a KM down the road. He looked pretty scary, if anyone has seen Tom Hanks movie Captain Phillips he looked like the Somalian pirate but in this case skinny with bare feet. It might have be coincidence but when we passed he started chasing my car…
Unfortunately in the heat of the moment we didn’t take a photo, I saw him clear is day and he looked so wasted. No I didn’t go punch him as I genuinely thought the cops would come and a knife into me doesn’t help the situation at all.
Innocence has been lost in this family.
I was asked last night to take the kids to the station for a statement as I did today. It was painful (over an hour waiting) as so many people were there but the front line staff were pretty bloody good and showed a huge amount of compassion to the girls.
Not sure what the take home message is other than (unfortunately) keep your family safe ❤️
