For all our Christchurch friends…
Wanna take the (polar) plunge - but can't wait until Heritage Expeditions heads down to the Ross Sea in January & February?
Our friends at New Zealand Antarctic Society have you covered with their Polar Plunge New Brighton event - brave the icy water and celebrate Christchurch's connection to Antarctica with a midwinter polar plunge with the NZ Antarctic Society. Join the New Zealand Antarctic Society and Step Ahead Trust for a midwinter polar plunge at New Brighton Beach!
Midwinter is the biggest celebration on the Antarctic calendar, historically marked by those wintering over jumping into the freezing ocean.
Learn about Antarctica, the significance of midwinter, and connect with the continent through the very ocean that joins it to New Zealand.
