Sustainable fishing and research is a big part of what we practice here at Kaikoura Fishing Tours. Over the past 4 years we have been working alongside Tindale research by helping with the tag and release of a variety of species. Perch, Bluecod, Terakihi and School Sharks to name a few.

This Tope Shark (School Shark) was tagged by us back in April 23 and re caught 2.5 yrs later up off Farewell spit and growing nearly half a metre in that time.

Stoked to have helped towards the research side of making a more sustainable fisheries. Fishing for a feed and fishing for our future ✊🏻

Good enough to make your eyebrows fall off! Now that’s a compliment! 😆 god I love google translate. Now from a gal that’s had her eyebrows fall off, I don’t recommend it but hey if you want to enjoy the trip that much, then each to their own I say. Jian clearly enjoyed her trip, take a read of the Google translate review we got through the other night from her, it had us in stitches, glad to hear she enjoyed it so much!

“ stepping onto the fishing boat, the seabreeze mingles with the sunshine and the captain, with his characteristic New Zealand humour immediately dispels the tension. The real adventure begins at the moment the fishing line is casted into the deep blue sea - a gentle tug on the other side, and you feel a distinct weight; excitement explodes in your fingertips ……..the moment the captain pulled up the lobster trap, the whole ship erupted in cheers. Dozens of lively South Pacific lobsters with their vibrant shells and outstretched tentacles rushed onto the deck like an underwater carnival. They were so fresh it could only be described as “ stunning”. Seafood sashimi: so fresh it’ll make your eyebrows fall off! The captain not only knows how to sail and tell jokes but he also knows how to make sashimi. After the fish was brought up, he quickly and skilfully filleted and peeled and sliced it; the translucent fish meat was almost transparent in the sunlight. Dip it in wasabi and soy sauce and the moment you put it in your mouth-it’s incredibly fresh! So fresh it makes your eyebrows twitch

The first trip of the season done and dusted 💥 it’s always good to get that first one out, dust off the cobwebs and get back into the rhythm after a long winter break. Huge thanks to all our loyal regulars and the many new faces who joined us on the water this year. We are officially closed for our winter break now and we will be back in action at the start of September. Until then, tight lines and calm seas - see you all next season ✌🏼
