Totally Tarawera

Totally Tarawera We are committed as a Whanau Business to create "Meaningful Experiences" for you at Lake Tarawera Ro Let our team show you our Lake Tarawera.

This area has been visited by people from all over the world for well over a century. Visitors first came to see the eighth wonder of the Natural World, The Pink and White Terraces. They were guided there by the local Maori tribe of Tuhourangi. On the 10th June 1886 that all changed due to the massive eruption of Mount Tarawera. Slowly but surely the land here has healed from that destruction howe

ver the Pink and White Terraces are no more. There are now many other amazing sites for visitors to experience and thankfully the guiding legacy of Tuhourangi is been re-born again, here at their Turangawaewae (standing ground) in the form of their descendant Karen Walmsley and her husband David Walmsley. We are Totally Tarawera.

There are great things to find, even when the weather could be kinder

One man at Hot Water Beach.

Venture the Tarawera Trail, or take a round trip to a natural bush hot pool tucked into a bush setting.

Beautiful time to walk the Tarawera Trail. Kids will love it.

We can not tell you where our glamping site is. You only find out when you are taken there by boat. We can not tell you it is on the edge of a stunningly beautiful lake and not far from a beautiful natural hot pool. There are lots of other things we can not tell you, so you can check out our website to know stuff.
We just opened Kanuka Glamping for the season, so right now, there is space available.

Walking the Tarawera Trail?
Grab a reward along the way with a dip in the Natural Bush Hot Pool.

A beautiful time of the year to walk the Tarawera Trail. Everything is fresh, the Natural Bush Hot Pool is pretty quiet, and it's not too hot walking.
And the water taxi back is stunning in the Spring light.
Don't forget to download the FREE Tarawera Trail Story App and enjoy the stories.

They came from all parts of the world to get to know each other.

They were all students about to do their MBA at the World- renowned University of Chicigo, USA
They had come from the likes of Peru, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico all parts of Europe and of course the United States to spend a week in New Zealnnd.

Of those five days, they spent 1 day walking the Tarawera Trail with a hot pool soak, shared lunch, and boat cruise back on Lake Tarawera.
It was an excellent time to play, learn about Maori Culture and enjoy nature.

A new season starts for our Kanuka glamping site at Lake Tarawera.
As you can see, a picture replaces a thousand words of description.
Nestled on Maori land away from everyday life, it is a place of rest, regeneration, nature, and healing.
We strive each year to make it a little better even though nature has made a pretty good job by itself..
We have added more artworks, a little more comfort, without losing what we believe glamping is truly all about.
Come and be a part of our whenua, rest, sustain, and let nature show you the way.
If that's not quite enough, enjoy one of our Maori inspired and infused food hampers that are not only generous but are raised from nature itself.

Kia ora
