Aotearoa is home to the world's clearest freshwater - Rotomairewhenua/Blue Lake 💙

But with increasing numbers of visitors to this tapu (sacred) spot, the lake's pristine water is at risk from lindavia, a microscopic algae that can hitch a ride on tramping gear.

Lindavia causes a sticky, slimy material known as 'lake snot' to grow under the surface. Once it's present in the water, we can't get rid of it.

As you can imagine, lake snot would irreversibly spoil Rotomairewhenua's crystal-clear blue water. As visitors to this sacred spot, we're all responsible for protecting it.

My son and his friend had an incredible 4 days walking the in . Followed by a great boat ride with Lake Rotoroa Water Taxi! Lake Rotoroa is 35 minutes drive from the St Arnaud village. Well worth a drive and a scenic boat trip! Truly spectacular ✨

Happy Easter everyone!

Unfortunately, we will be slightly increasing the minimum water taxi fee due to increased operating costs. The fee includes G.S.T, and DOC concessions. Our costs to keep the water taxi available and running on Lake Rotoroa are significant - fuel, maritime compliance, servicing, and insurance, to name a few.

Fee Changes – Effective From 1st May 2024:
Our water taxi fees are dependent on the total number of passengers per trip. The minimum fee is $210 for 1-3 people one-way ($420 return), or $65 per person one-way ($130 return) if there are 4 or more passengers. We try to group bookings to make it more affordable for our clients.

NEW LAKE TOUR OPTION
We are now running 1 and a half to 2 hour scenic lake tours for groups of 2 or more passengers. We gently cruise up the lake to explore the waters around the D'Urville and then stop at the Sabine hut to stretch our legs before making our way back to Rotoroa jetty. Fee from $300.
