The Doctor's Retreat is walking distance from The Church of the Good Shepherd and the local village of Tekapo which offers winter activities for the family including ice-skating, tubing, bathing in the hot pools and the relatively short ascent to the Mt John Observatory. Only 30 mins drive to the Round Hill (RH) Ski Field. There is a shuttle bus from Tekapo Village to RH in the winter. In the summ

er offers trails you can explore the region on bikes or foot. Tekapo is close to Twizel and Mt Cook for lots of adventures and mountain biking opportunities including the Alps2Ocean cycle trail. This coming season will see an exciting new development for the trail. Thanks to Genesis Energy, cyclists will be allowed to use the Tekapo Canal Road (with no vehicles permitted) as a link to the main Alps2Ocean cycle trail. The alternative start is at the Tekapo Springs info centre, cycling past the Bluewater Resort where there is an off-road pedestrian/cycle trail. This leads to Power Station Road which leads to Tekapo Canal Road.
