I love the big cats but there is much more to Africa than the predators. The dung battle is an amazingly industrious insect and fascinating to watch as are the crested Guinea fowl whose colours go largely unnoticed and their bird song is a bit melodious when they get going and past the quack quack. One of the best things when I travel to East Africa is not only the people who travel with me but the amazing people I return to see each year. They are the wonderful staff of the andbeyond lodges where we stay. Greeted with song and smiles a mile wide it is like coming home. They are truely magical

The architecture is both traditional and colonial, with a more modern 20th centrury influence coming into the larger cities.
