Hutt Tempe NZ/AZ

Hutt Tempe NZ/AZ Sister City is a network that creates partnerships between communities to promote cultural understanding and stimulate economic development.

Tempe is located in Arizona and has a population of 161,700.. Major industries include high technology, manufacturing, education, commerce and tourism. Lower Hutt City signed a Sister City agreement with Tempe in 1981 and the relationship has involved a range of exchanges. The Hutt Sister City Foundation currently runs two annual exchange programmes with Tempe:
■Student exchange - four young peop

le host their Tempe 'brother' or 'sister' for five weeks and then travel to Tempe for a five-week homestay
■Teacher exchange - three teachers are selected to host three teachers from Tempe then travel to Tempe where they observe classes in Tempe schools and visit other educators

In 2011 a Sister City Business delegation also traveled to Tempe. where key business relationships were established. A further trip to Tempe is planned for October 2014.

On behalf of the Hutt Sister City Foundation this plaque was presented to our Tempe Sister City as part of the 50th anniversary celebrations. Tempe also had another award presented to them from a member of congress. We are hugely thankful to be a part of such a successful exchange programme. Here’s to many more in the future! 🤩👏🏼
