Keen stargazer? Ruakahu Lodge is situated in the Aoraki Mackenzie Dark Sky Reserve - an area of extremely low light pollution which means it's the best spot to view the stars. Either sitting on the deck, or enjoying the view from the outdoor tub, the stars are spectacular with no telescopes required. Stargazing can be done at any time of the year and is best during a new moon (just a sliver)! So check out the calendars and book your stargazing escape at Ruakahu!

Keen on walking or hiking? There are plenty of walks close to Ruakahu Lodge for all ages and abilities. Gentle walks include the Twizel Walkway, Twizel River Track, Pukaki Flats or Pukaki Kettlehole. Greta Stream is more advanced, but the view from the top of Ben Ohau is spectacular! Aoraki Mt Cook also has a range of hikes, including the world famous Ho**er Valley Track (please note only the bottom section is open currently). For more information, click on the following links:
