It was refreshing, and a lot of fun to welcome some youthful, curious energy from the Young Eagles programme by Flying New Zealand, into Air Napier last week 🦅

Mark, our Director of Training, put together something special. A hands-on aviation experience for this group of bright, motivated teens exploring what it really takes to fly.

Led by Ali Shand from the Hawke's Bay and East Coast Aero Club, the Young Eagles came with plenty of questions and open minds, ready to explore how a regional air charter and FBO like ours operates.

From stepping into cockpits to walking the hangar floor, we were glad to share not just the inner workings of our day-to-day, , but the bigger picture too, including how regional aviation helps drive connection, growth, and opportunity across Aotearoa 💯

A big thanks to Mark for making the day one to remember, and to the Young Eagles for reminding us what the future of flight looks like ❤️

😍 How delightful it was to get a surprise visit from one of our alumni pilots, Stephen Kelly, as he stepped through the doors of Air Napier yesterday!

: Stephen was the first pilot hired under our new leadership in 2018. What started as the beginning of a pilot career at Air Napier has now taken him to the flight decks of Air New Zealand ✈️

We’re incredibly proud to have played an integral part in his journey. Training, mentoring, and giving him the runway to grow his wings👨‍✈️🪽

And of course, big chief John Hamilton, our operations director and Stephen’s former trainer, couldn’t resist making sure his pilot jacket was sitting just right.
Once a mentor, always a mentor😂

In Aotearoa, regional aviation is a critical connector, linking people, places, and opportunity. Stephen’s story is a great reminder that the strength of our national network starts with strong regional foundations.

🥓🍳 Breakfast hits different when you’ve been on the tarmac since 6am! Adoro Ahuriri, you make a real good breakfast spread 😋

This was one of our biggest and busiest ground handlings yet, the National Geographic Airbus A319. The crew was on-site early, working in sync from 6am to make it all run smoothly 🌅

Of course we had to follow it up with a post-mission feast 🤤 Oh the Adoro fluffy pancakes with 𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑙 𝑚𝑎𝑝𝑙𝑒 𝑠𝑦𝑟𝑢𝑝 😉, grilled chicken, bacon, sausages, avo smash, scrambled eggs, fresh fruit and everything in between 🍳🥑🍇🥓🔥

Nothing beats sharing a family brekkie in the office after a job well done, TOGETHER 🙌 This team earned every pancake on that table 🥞😋

Airbus A319 🔥 a large jet that truly graced us with its presence, touched down in Hawke’s Bay for the second time as part of the National Geographic Expedition! 🧭🛬

🛠️ This Cessna 208B Grand Caravan just wrapped up a pretty epic mission to reach our international gateway here in Napier, arriving for scheduled maintenance after making its way across the globe:

🛫 Enid, OK ➡️ Show Low, AZ ➡️ Merced, CA ➡️ Honolulu, HI ➡️ Apia, Samoa ➡️ Napier, NZ 🛬

Air Napier was on deck for ground handling, making sure the Cessna, along with its crew, received a warm welcome into the Hawke’s Bay skies and well looked after once it touched down on Kiwi soil 🌿

So what made this arrival possible? Our international arrival certification is the key. It allows aircraft to fly directly into Napier for servicing 🔧

That certification doesn’t just benefit operators, it creates opportunities for local aviation maintenance and avionics businesses. Two years ago, Cyclone Gabrielle turned our world upside down. Roads were gone, power was out, and communities were completely cut off. But in the midst of all that chaos, one thing was clear, we had to act and help the community.

How we managed to help a little through those devastating days:
✈️ Flew over 2,000 passengers by fixed-wing aircrafts, including police and medical staff—from around New Zealand to and around the East Coast.
📦 Transported approximately 500 tonnes of freight and emergency supplies, some on behalf of NEMA.
🚢 Transferred freight off HMNZS Canterbury and HMNZS Manawai for onward air movements to Wairoa District Council and Gisborne District Council.
💵 Enabled $41 million in cash to be flown through the East Coast for the Reserve Bank of NZ, primarily to Gisborne.
😷 Flew six patients to Palmerston North for emergency cancer treatment.
💊 Delivered over 10,000 kg of urgent medicine, medical and oxygen supplies, to Wairoa.
🤰 Six mothers ready to give birth flown out of Wairoa in those initial 2 weeks
🪖Provided 72 ground-handling operations for the NZ Defence Force and Defence Australia for their Lockheed Martin C-130 Hercules and C-27J Spartan aircraft.

Resilience isn’t just about getting through a crisis—it’s about being ready for the next one. That’s why we continue to train, plan, and prepare, because when the next emergency comes, we’ll be there.
