Final day in Niue and we went out with a bang. This morning was whale watching , we saw lots of whales but unfortunately the whales were on the move today and would not stay still Long enough for us to swim with them. But we did have a wonderful time getting so close to them and I loved hearing the Whales song. The afternoon was back out of the water for a snorkelling tour, where we got to swim out on the reef. The clarity of the water was amazing and it was a great way to end our holiday.

I have had the most fantastic week and cannot recommend Niue enough. Every day Niue surprised us with something new to discover.

Niue seems to be filled with lots of ”that was the best” moments. Tonight we went Uga hunting with the Mokalei family. We got up
Close and personal with some Uga (coconut crabs) and enjoyed getting to know the family. They were also generous enough to give us 2 crabs to take home and cook for our dinner tomorrow night.

Wow everyday in Niue seems to get better. Today was an early start for some of us who were on a fishing trip. We caught 2 Wahoo, and were lucky to see dolphins and whales and have a trip right around the whole island and we chose the option of having the Vaiolama Cafe prepare our share of the catch for dinner. Once again Explore Niue gave us a memorable day and outstanding service I cannot recommend them enough.

All those that stayed behind walked to the Talava Arches and could not stop raving about how amazing it was. A must do but a resonable level of fitness is required as there are some narrow and steep parts to navigate with only ropes to hold
Onto.

We all then met up again before heading out to dinner at Vaiolama Cafe, where we enjoyed beautiful views and our deliciously prepared fresh fish we caught earlier that day.

After years of hearing about the wonders of Niue, with it’s incredible water and friendly locals, I was excited to be able to finally be able get out and explore Niue for myself and I was not dissapointed.

We were lucky enough to be in Niue on one of their monthly show days, where each month a village showcases their produce and culture. We got to see some fantastic dancing and wonderful local produce and crafts. A highlight was the young kids dancing, and the giant uga crabs.

After a snorkel in some of the clearest water I have ever seen and a delicious lunch, we then met Vanessa from Explore Niue who took us on an orientation tour of the islands. This was the most informative tour and a must do for everyone visiting Niue. We learnt where to eat, the best places to swim and snorkel based on then tides, local customs and the history of Niue. Having the local knowledge of Vanessa was invaluable, we were lucky enough to be joined by her son and daughter as well. I cannot recommend explore Niue enough if you are wanting to get the most out of your Niue holiday.

We then ended our day with sunset cocktails at scenic matavai before taking home some delicious local Pizzas.

Mexico Day 7. Last day in Mexico 🥲 and what a day it was!! We started early with a stop at a bakery to try the local breads and a hot chocolate be fore continuing on to Hierve el Agua the petrified waterfalls. They are 1 of only 2 in the world (the other is in Turkey) and were a wonderful sight to see. It was very hot and steep walks so we enjoyed the swim in the mineral pools at the end. This was definitely worth doing and a highlight of my holiday. We then headed to see a family run textile demonstration and finished the day with some mezcal tastings. Before heading out to a delicious restaurant for a farewell dinner. We had a lovely group of people so it was lots of goodbye hugs before one last drink and off to bed ready for our flights to LA tomorrow. Adios Mexico you have been muy bien.

México Day 6. Today we visited the historical Architectural site of Mount Albon. This was really interesting and we got to hear allot more about the history and way people used to live. I really enjoyed it. After that we went to see black pottery made by a local family. It was then back to Oaxaca for a free afternoon. After a yummy lunch we headed to the markets and spent the afternoon exploring them. For dinner spent the evening at the Zocolol enjoying all the entertainment and some people watching while trying some local drinks including a traditional Hot chocolate.

Mexico Day 5. Hard to believe we are over 1/2 way. Today we had a 5 hour bus ride from Puebla to Oaxaca. The bus was extremely comfortable and I would love to tell you all about it, but I fell asleep and had a great nap for most of the trip!!! Apparently there was a few scary turns and cliffs according to Jenelle. Once we arrived into Oaxaca to our new hotel a d dropped our bags, it was time for lunch and a tour of the markets and city centre. It was really hot when we arrived but cooled down in the evening and we even had some rain. Lunch was at a family run stall in the markets, delicious. After lunch we got to try the local chocolate Oaxaca is famous for, and see how they processed it all, finishing off by tasting some Mezcal, before visiting the zocolal which was very lively, and the Santa Domingo church, with its magnificent baroque decor. After that we were on our own so we did some shopping. Sat in the Zocolal and listened to a local band playing, before heading to a rooftop bar for some guacamole and margaritas. On the way we happened across a parade which is quite common in Oaxaca. A great afternoon and evening. Oaxaca is a wonderful city and I cannot wait to explore it some more tomorrow.

Day Four Mexico. Today was allot more chilled and we had a free day, so we took some time to relax a bit today. This morning we had some of the yummy pastries we saw yesterday in the Zocola (town square) for breakfast before setting of to explore Puelbla. Only problem is most things open at about 10am and we are early risers although this did make it nice and quiet to explore the streets. Once the shops opened We found time to buy a few souviners in candy street famous for all its candy shops and at the local craft market. After exploring all the beautiful streets, we went on a 1 hour city tour which was fantastic, we got to see a decent amount of the inner city and hear the history of Puebla. Most famous for being the location they defeated the French on May 5th and now celebrated across Mexico as cinque de mayo. And for its numerous churches and cathedrals, Puebla is a very popular travel destination in Mexico. After another great meal for lunch… you do not go hungry in Mexico. After visiting a few more of the city sights, we decided that we needed a bit of down time as we had not stopped since leaving New Zealsnd and spent the evening chilling by the pool and chatting to our fellow travellers. A great way to end the day!! Big day tomorrow a 6 hour bus ride on the public buses to Oaxaca.

Mexico Day Three. Definitely the hightlight of my trip so far. We visited the Teotihuacán Ruins which was fantastic. The history and architecture was amazing and I could listen to our guide talk all day about the cultures of all the people who have lived there over the thousands of years. We then made out way to Peublo with a stop for some lastings of local drinks and finding out the obsidian stove which was very o important historicallly. It is approximately 2-2 hours to Puebla from Mexico Ciry. We arrived at our locket hotel which has a pool … very exciting and had a walk around this beautiful little town before heading out for a night of pure entertainment a Lucho Libre show.
