At EcoZip, we've always believed that tourism should leave places better than we found them.
That's why we're delighted to announce our sponsorship of the Kororā Monitoring and Research Project at Pōhatu/Flea Bay on Banks Peninsula, through our friends at Moana Mark
The project supports more than 30 years of research and conservation work focused on Canterbury's endemic white-flippered kororā (little penguin). From monitoring breeding success and survival rates to habitat restoration, predator control and GPS tracking studies, the programme is helping researchers better understand and protect one of New Zealand's most treasured seabirds.
For many of us, memories of New Zealand involve time spent on, in or around the ocean. Protecting the species that call our coastline home is something we're proud to support.
This sponsorship is another small step in EcoZip's ongoing commitment to commercial conservation; using tourism as a force for good and helping fund projects that create meaningful environmental outcomes.
A huge thank you to the team at Pōhatu and to Moana Mark for making it possible for businesses like ours to directly support important conservation science.
Because great adventures should leave a legacy.
A strong accompanying image would be a kororā emerging from the water at dusk, or one of the researchers working with tagged penguins in the colony.
