Our ears were soaking up the beautiful voice of Rensha Bouwer, owner of Providence Pantry at our Women's Breakfast last week, along with her beautiful mother.

Rensha came from fine arts, before heading to culinary school. She trained under some of New Zealand's best, including time working alongside Michael van de Elzen and in kitchens across Auckland and Waiheke Island. The head chef lifestyle of late nights and early mornings eventually took its toll, and with family already settled in Paeroa, she made the move and opened Providence Pantry.

Here's what Rensha wants you to know about Providence Pantry - it's a deli.... not a café, not a bakery. Think gourmet cheeses, fresh made food, European imports, New Zealand artisan products, olive oils, olives, nuts, and seasonings. It's a foodie destination and the quality is the point.

Rensha's main focus is on serving here in Paeroa. She wants to make good quality, well sourced, great tasting food and keep it local. She's been making the most of improving her social media presence and it is paying off - thanks to helping hands for filming and been great at consistency!

Keep an eye out for Saturday street pancakes, and watch this space for cooking demonstrations and open evenings.

Find Providence Pantry in Paeroa and give them a follow to stay across what's coming up.

Martha Open Pit Plans go back to the drawing board, as OceanaGold stays focused on restoration and future developments, including the Waihi North Project.

We’ve decided to withdraw the application we made in 2023 to Hauraki District Council, to expand the Martha Mineral Zone to include additional properties owned by the company adjacent to the existing Martha Open Pit.

The proposal was only partially approved by Commissioners following a public hearing in 2025, for a much-reduced area which does not include all of the land necessary to support the future expansion of the Martha Open Pit. In light of the partial approval, we’ve made the decision to withdraw our application.

At some point in the future we may choose to revisit the expansion of the Martha Open Pit. However, it is clear from the reasons given by the Commissioners that significant further work and engagement would be needed ahead of any new application. Progressing to this point has already taken considerable effort over a number of years, and any future process would likely require a similar level of detailed planning.

While plans for the Martha Open Pit expansion are paused, the site remains an important focus for the company. We are still committed to planning for final closure and the delivery of enhancement work for the wider Pukewa/Martha Hill area, which has been developed in collaboration with iwi and the wider community.

We intend to get this work underway now, where we can, and to make improvements around the pit, focusing on areas we can progress regardless of any future pit expansion.

Trail Logic

Normal life: Drive 5 minutes to avoid walking.

Cycling holiday: Ride 40km to justify eating a giant slice of cake.

Makes perfect sense to us.
