We all love a good tunnel, and at 1.1 kilometres, the Karangahake Tunnel is one of the longest on the Great Ride network. Following the January weather event, the surface was badly disrupted and a rough grading was carried out to get the tunnel reopened before Easter. Funding applications are progressing, and restoring the tunnel surface and drainage is our number one priority. In the meantime, please follow the signs and dismount to walk through - running water can make the surface unpredictable in places. We’re looking forward to the day the tunnel is resealed and back to its best… and we suspect Lego Man and his teeny bike will be rather pleased to ride through it again too.
