Teamwork! ๐ŸŒŠโœจ

Thereโ€™s nothing quite like the thrill of sailing, and let me tell you, itโ€™s all about teamwork! โ›ต๐Ÿ’ช Every time we hoist the sails and feel the wind in our hair, Iโ€™m reminded that it takes a great team to make the magic happen on the water.

From safetly navigating the sea and the tides, to working in harmony as a crew, every role plays a crucial part in our adventure, including our office team and you guessed it... our wonderful guests! We have a great bunch of people join us on our sailing cruises, and we really enjoy the company.

We somehow manage to find just the right mix of it all to make our days superb, we always come home with a big smile on our face ๐Ÿ˜. Careful planning, passion, environment, people, we are winning!

Aotearoa, the land of the long white cloud โ˜๏ธ

Spring can be a bit of a mixed bag when it comes to the weather, lately it's been beautiful blue sky sunny days, warmer than expected temperatures, and today... you guessed it, the bubbly white cloud.

But just in behind that bubbly white cloud is the blue sky and sunshine, so we don't let a bit of cloud get us down. We have our slice of paradise who's beauty shines far beyond the mood of the sky.

The Bay of Islands is rich in culture, history and landscapes people travel across the world ๐ŸŒ to experience as one of their must see destinations.

The sailing itself is an experience that is hard to pass up, feel the wind in your hair, salty splashes, really makes you feel alive and appreciate nature, and today is absolutely one of those days!

Our island destination is a wildlife sanctuary for many of our rare endemic species, sadleback, whitehead, robin, red crowned parakeet, kiwi, gecko's, giant weta, and many more!

Our lunchtime stopover is 2 hours of exploring here, take your pick, snorkel, SUP, hike, or relax on the beach with a picnic lunch.

Our crew are all passionate sailors who love tall tales and good humor, enjoy helping people learn something new, or have a go at that stand up paddleboarding they've always wanted to try, but most of all it's the people connection is what drives the success of their day.

There's more to a Barefoot Sailing Adventure than a perfect sunny day. So if you're looking for more than your average boat tour experience on your travels to the Bay of Islands don't look past spending the day with the Barefoot crew on the Island Hopper Cruise.

And don't wait for the perfect sunny day, you'll be missing out on so much more!

This unique and endangered species has been reunited with our beautiful islands of Ipipiri since it was reintroduced in 2015, thanks to the efforts of the local conservation organization, Project Island Song. A total of 80 birds were set free on Moturua and Urupukapuka islands, and since their release, the population continues to flourish on these pest-free islands, their distinctive calls greeting us as we sail into the bays!โ

A portion of the Island Hopper Cruise ticket proceeds is allocated to Project Island Song, playing a vital role in safeguarding our taonga species.โ

๐ŸŒฟ๐ŸŽ‰ CELEBRATING CONSERVATION WEEK! ๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŒฟ

Weโ€™re excited to share this fantastic article from Project Island Song highlighting how weโ€™re supporting their incredible conservation efforts.

Founded 20 years ago by a passionate group of conservation minded locals with a vision to "bring back the birdsong to the Bay of Islands," Project Island Song has achieved remarkable success. Their work includes predator eradication, invasive plant removal, habitat restoration, and species translocations, creating a stunning sanctuary on a group of 7 islands in the Eastern Bay of Islands.

When we started our business in the Bay of Islands in 2016, we were so inspired by their dedication and felt like it really fitted our values so we wanted to contribute. We began by donating a portion of our ticket sales and went on to become more involved, you could say slightly obsessed! During the winter season, we made good use our boat to transport volunteers for crucial tasks like species monitoring, work with Auckland Zoo, and the incredible species translocations. We were able to bring community members along to witness the incredible releases of endangered species.

Seeing the profound impact on those who experience this work firsthand is truly inspiring.

Thank you to our amazing guests for your support! ๐ŸŒŸ Your contributions not only enhance your own cruise experience but also play a crucial role in conservation and strengthen the community of the Bay of Islands. Through our cruises, weโ€™re proud to share the inspiring story of Project Island Song, educate others about preserving our unique wildlife sanctuary, and encourage everyone to appreciate New Zealandโ€™s stunning birdlife! ๐Ÿฆœ๐Ÿ’š

A heartfelt thank you to the members and volunteers of Project Island Song, the Guardians of the Bay of Islands, Te Rawhiti Hapu, Department of Conservation and all the extraordinary people who we have met, we are deeply grateful to be part of the journey with you. Aroha nui.

We had our first charter on Moonwalker our new catamaran, and what a fab day it was!

Perfect conditions with flat water, 10-15 knots of breeze, blue skies and a fun bunch of guests onboard from Australia, UK, Czech Republic & Honolulu. Couldn't have been better for our maiden charterโ›ต๏ธ

The Tieke (saddleback) and Kakariki (red crowned parakeet) were calling as we entered the bay at Moturua Island for our lunchtime stopover, the perfect welome after our winter of boat maintenance and refits!

A picnic lunch and exploration was the order of the day.

We had one brave swimmer for a fresh spring swim, our little baby girl Hazel (10 months old) nobody else was brave enough, but then again nobody else is small enough to immerse in the warm shallow waters quite the same ๐Ÿ˜ and the rest enjoyed a hike to capture views of the Bay of Islands, and a glimpse of some of our beautiful endangered bird species on the predator free island.

A beautiful down wind run home had us all grinning, with plenty of convo around the cockpit with the captain and who can resist a turn at the helm!

A classic Bay of Islands sailing day.

Happy days for the Barefoot Crew and our new vessel Moonwalker!
