There’s always a moment when we first anchor up, where someone leans over the back of the boat, looks down into the water and goes, “okay, I'm doing it, I’m getting in.”
And then suddenly everyone’s in agreement - time for a swim!
Masks on, flippers half-on, half-off, that slightly awkward shuffle before you slip into the water and realise just how clear it actually is. You pop your face under and it’s a whole different world down there, fish darting around, sunlight cutting through the water, everything moving in that slow, calm way that makes you forget what time it is. That peaceful, not-quite-silence sound when your head is underwater with the sun piercing through in front of you.
On our cruise, there is no big production, no pressure to “do it right,” - just jump in when you feel like it, have a float, go exploring, point things out to each other like kids again when you see a cool fish.
You’ll hear the muffled laughs, see people popping their heads up mid-snorkel to say “did you see that?!” and then straight back under they go.
And the best part is you climb back up onto the boat, hair dripping, salty, buzzing a little, already replaying what you just saw.
It’s simple, but it never gets old.
