Kaingahou Estate

Kaingahou Estate Kaingahou is a historic homestead in the central North Island of New Zealand. The name was chosen by the first owner of the property.

Set in an acre of established garden, with trees on the property that are as old as the house, Kaingahou offers guests a truly unique accommodation experience. "Kaingahou" is a Maori word that translates to "New Home" (kainga means 'home' and hou means 'new'). Ditlev Gothardt Monrad, who was the grandson of Bishop DG Monarad, a significant figure in the history of Denmark and the Manawatu district

. Ditlev was forced to sell the family farm due to old health and built Kaingahou for his wife and family in 1903/04. Beautifully persevered, the villa is constructed entirely of New Zealand native timbers, a mixture of totara, rimu and matai. The property which is registered as a Category II historic home with the NZ Historic Place Trust.

Big news from our family!

After 10 wonderful years, we’ve decided to put our beloved home, Kaingahou Estate, on the market (see listing below). It’s bittersweet to say goodbye, but we’re excited for new memories to be made here once it's sold.

This house has seen so many special moments from weddings, birthdays, graduations, first steps, endless gatherings, and heartfelt goodbyes. So many happy times and growth were made within these walls.

I know this house will continue to be a blessing for everyone who comes through its doors in the future.
