Four lakefront lodges in New Zealand I’d send my honeymooners and luxury travel couples to without hesitation. Each earns its place for a different reason.

Lake Tarawera, Rotorua
Tucked into native bush on a volcanic lake. Nine suites, total quiet, and the kind of stillness that resets your nervous system before you’ve finished your first coffee.

Lake Pukaki
That turquoise water. Aoraki/Mt Cook on the horizon. A bathtub with this view! What more could you want.

Queenstown
Twenty minutes from town but a world away. With stunning mountain and lake views, and a kitchen that takes dinner very seriously. My pick when couples want the best of both action and relaxation.

Glenorchy
A remote location. Schist and timber, big fires, lake glass-flat at dawn. Forty minutes past Queenstown into Lord of the Rings country. Stay three nights minimum, you will want them.

Different lodges, all answer the same question: Where in New Zealand is actually worth it? These are.

Save this one for the planning stage to build into your New Zealand itinerary.

Five luxury New Zealand stays I send couples to when they want to disappear 🌱

The Lindis in the Ahuriri Valley. The architectural lodge that almost vanishes into the tussock. Tucked into an alpine high-country valley between Wanaka and Tekapo, the kind of place you stop seeing other people the moment you turn off the main road.

Lake Hawea Station. The working high-country farm above Lake Hawea, where the stay is a private cottage and the experience is the run of a thousand-hectare estate. Three-night packages, completely private, deeply quiet.

Eagles Nest in the Bay of Islands. Five private clifftop villas above the Pacific, each with its own pool and its own view. The North Island answer for couples who want luxury and complete privacy in the same room.

Bay of Many Coves in the Marlborough Sounds. Only reachable by water taxi or helicopter. The kind of stay where the boat ride is part of the disappearance.

And Pure Pods. One pod, off-grid, the bed facing a glass roof and the stars. Set at the edge of a vineyard, a lake, an alpine meadow. The most extreme version of disappearing I know.

Five different ways to step out of normal life for a few days.

Which one is your kind of quiet? 🤍

Milford Sound is one of the most photographed places on earth. The trick isn’t getting there; it is choosing the version that lets you feel it.🫶🏼

The standard cruises move people. This one elevates the experience to a version I think you will enjoy.

Experience small numbers, bespoke surroundings and fine cuisine that not only tastes amazing, it tells a story of New Zealand.

Plus! Who can’t go past a glass of Cloudy Bay Wine🥂

This is a deeply immersive, care-led encounter with ever seat a window seat & plenty of deck space to take those memorable pics of the wildlife and scenery that surrounds you.

Real NZ have got this experience right. Be inspired by not only the scenery but by enjoying a five-course tasting menu curated by renowned New Zealand chef Tom Hishon.

This is a cruise we should look to plan into your New Zealand Itinerary. Save this one. You’ll want it later.✨

🕊️Small moments on your honeymoon like these matter. Taking time to unwind and soak in your surroundings.

This is what I like to build into honeymoon itineraries. And finding the right spots for you to spend a few extra days that make your trip one to remember.

For couples and honeymooner’s looking for something extraordinary 👌

The Best Boutique stay in Queenstown has to be this 👌

One of the things I notice most when staying somewhere is the little details most people overlook.

The Stay of Queenstown gets those right.

It’s close enough to walk into Queenstown for dinner or a drink by the lake, but far enough away that it still feels quiet when you come back. The lake views help too.🫶

But honestly, it was Ingrid’s personal touches throughout the stay that made it stand out. The kind of place that feels cared for from the moment you arrive.

If you’re planning a trip to Queenstown and want something boutique, relaxed, and a bit more personal than a large hotel, this one’s worth knowing about.

Four New Zealand lodges I would build a luxury New Zealand Itinerary around. Having experienced them all I find they all offer you something different.

Huka Lodge in Taupō for the quiet mornings based along the riverside. Rosewood Cape Kidnappers for its incredible cliff top views. Blanket Bay, close to Queenstown but so secluded you will forget you are not far away. The Lindis in the remote and scenic Ahuriri Valley offering the most dramatic landscape.

Four different versions of New Zealand. Which would you choose?

Save this for your shortlist.

In a quiet, high-country valley a short drive from Queenstown sits one of the most considered stays in New Zealand.

An architectural lodge set deep in the Ahuriri Valley. A place most travellers pass straight through, and very few think to stay. The lodge itself is sculptural. The suites are private. The silence is the kind you only realise you needed once you have it.

If you were to ask me where you could go to truly disappear, without giving anything up - then here is where I would suggest. Refined. Considered. Hosted with care.

This is the kind of stay an entire New Zealand itinerary can be built around x
