Our new dates for Maud Island Tours 2023 have been set : They are January 14, 15,28,29 2023. This is a unique opportunity to view some rare and endangered species on Maud Island Scientific Reserve. Come and meet Nick & Gen, who are the DOC rangers on the island and who will show you these special creatures!! From the tiny Maud Island tree frog with its webbed feet, to the Giant Cook Strait Weta, and the rare Click beetle , plus many more!!

Join us for a Fun Anzac Weekend Day, next weekend, on Sunday 24th April. We are putting on both our boats. Cost: $60 per person includes boat ride down to Te Rawa, live music by " Grumpy Monkey" , and some nibbles. Restaurant and Bar open for more food and drinks at own cost. Well it's only 3 days till we start the trips to Maud Island Scientific reserve. Leaving this Saturday 15th January at 9am, C-pier, Havelock marina. Then another trip leaving 9am , C-pier on Sunday 16th January, Saturday 22nd January and Sunday 23rd January. Their are still a few spaces left on all dates but bookings are steady so don't leave it too long!! This is a unique opportunity to get up close to some of NZ's rare and endangered species. To hear what the Department of Conservation are doing to help these species and what their plans are for the future as they learn more about them. We have 0ne week to go before we start the DOC summer programme visits to Maud Island, special scientific reserve. Their are spaces left on all dates 15/16/22/23 January 2022. Come and enjoy a trip to remember, visiting a mussel farm with commentary on that industry ,viewing wildlife on the way and some very rare and endangered species on the island. Maud Island Scientific Reserve is run by the Department of Conservation and in January each year they allow the public to visit the island and view the very rare and endangered species. We leave Havelock at 9am, cruise on out to visit a mussel farm where Gary gives you an informative talk on the industry, then visiting some nesting Shags , if they are around, at Dillon Bell, another DOC reserve. Before viewing the magnificent Gannet colony at Waimaru. From here we travel across to Maud Island where we are greeted by the resident DOC Officers who guide you to a viewing platform, just up the hill a bit from the wharf. Here you are shown the different species, mostly in jars so handling is kept to a minimum. The DOC Officers have collected and gathered these species ,the morning of the visit and return them after each trip. To follow I have shown a few photos from past trips, and species that use to be but proved too hard to breed on the island. But Maud is still a very special island with a varied History, an island where surveys are often carried out by students on the endangered species, an island still in progress working to protect and preserve our rare and endangered species. An island DOC and Pelorus Tours are proud of, to show the public.
