Did you know the blue colour inside a glacier isn't a trick of the light? 🧊

It's because the ice is compressed so densely over thousands of years that it absorbs every other colour in the spectrum — leaving only blue. The deeper you go, the bluer it gets.

Why so Blue? It's glacial flour! Microscopic rock particles ground down by the Southern Alps over thousands of years, suspended in the water and scattering the light in a way that looks completely unreal.

Lake Pukaki is one of those places you have to see to believe. And even then, you'll still be checking whether your camera is lying to you.

This is one of the stops on our South Island adventure tours. Between the bungy jumps and the helicopter rides, there are mornings like this one — and honestly, they hit just as hard.
