After a quick casting lesson, the boys were confidently firing lures within minutes. It didn’t take long before the rods started bending and a beautiful Queenstown brown trout hit the net. 🐟

The best part? They didn’t just catch dinner, they took it home and cooked it themselves that night. 🔥

Just found this on an old flash drive… and couldn’t not share it! 😅
A few years back, on the way home from the Rakaia Salmon Fishing Comp, we stopped off at the Mackenzie Country canals — and this absolute monster brown trout made my morning!
Caught on a Gulp Soft Plastic during a wild Mayfly rise just after sunrise 🌅

Still one of the heaviest canal trout I’ve ever landed — pure South Island magic 🎣
